Καλό καλοκαίρι !

Είπα να σταματήσω να κάνω το γνωστό copy paste που συνηθίζουν να κάνουν οι Bloggers στο διαδίκτυο. Κι είπα να αρχίσω να γράφω και να σχολιάζω... Just anything and everything.!

Από πού να αρχίσω; Το πιο κοντινό που μου 'ρχεται στο μυαλό είναι οι ευρωεκλογές. Κατέλης; Power. Ρίχνω και το website που πάει στην περίπτωση.. http://www.najle.com/idaft/ Η μαμακία ξεπέρασε κάθε όριο στην Ελλάδα. Και καλά που έκανε καλό καιρό εκείνες τις μέρες. Τώρα το σκεφτόμαστε.. Να πάω για μπάνιο ή θα με χτυπήσει κανένας κεραυνός στο μέσο του πουθενά;
Φυτεψαμε και ακτινίδια στην ταράτσα, τα πήραμε για αναρριχόμενα (ελπίζω να μη βρέχει ακτινίδια στο κεφάλι μας του χρόνου) βάλαμε έναν αρσενικό και 3 θυλικά, έτσι μας είπαν στο κατάστημα που τα πήραμε. Πασάδες οι ακτινίδες ! Αλλά το χαλάζι τα ρήμαξε. Ήρθε και μια σκουληκαντέρα κι άρχισε να τρώει (ξεκίνησε από τα φύλλα της λεμονιάς) ότι έβρισκε μπροστά της.. Και πάει το όνειρο του κήπου στην ταράτσα..
Τώρα που είπα ταράτσα.. Για ένα μήνα συνεχόμενα, πριν πιάσουν οι βροχές ανέβαινα στην ταράτσα να ποτίσω και μια γειτόνισσά μου τραγουδούσε opera Verdi.. Poutsini δεν ξέρω τί στα κομάτια ήταν αλλά όταν έβαζα το ραδιοφωνάκι τέρμα στα λαϊκά (μέχρι και ποντιακά έβαλα, φαντάσου) την έβλεπα να βγαίνει στο μπαλκόνι και μετά από λίγο.. νεκρική σιγή.. Μέχρι τα παιδιά την πήραν χαμπάρι και της το γύρισαν σε Οπέρα-ραπ..
Από πέρσι μέχρι φέτος κι ακόμα δεν τελείωσαν οι εργασίες στο δρόμο της γειτονιάς μου. Νιός ήμουν και γέρασα που λένε κι οι παπούδες... Ξεκίνησαν να ξε-ασφαλτίζουν το δρόμο για να αλλάξουν τους αγωγούς της αποχέτευσης και της ύδρευσης.. Όπως τους είδα να δουλεύουν και να διασταυρώνουν τους σωλήνες μάλλον σκατά πίνουμε και κατουράμε στο νερό.. Δίπλα δίπλα οι σωλήνες. Ποιος μελέτησε το θέμα θα θελα να ξερα. Αλλάαααααααα μας κάναν φοβερά πεζοδρόμια !! (Από τη μιά πλευρά ακόμα..η άλλη θα τελειώσει του χρόνου μαλλον) Σαν να περπατάς στην πλατεία της Αγίας Πετρούπολης (μεγάλη η χαρη της) !
Φέτος το καλοκαίρι δουλειά, ψώνια, μαγείρεμα, Λόλα και ύπνο άντε και κανένα μπάνιο όποιο Σαββατοκύριακο δε βρέχει. Α είπα για μπάνιο... Στην παραλία μας, είπαν να την κάνουν ευρωπαϊκή και με μπλέ σημαίες και με ναυαγοσώστες. Πέρσι ήταν που πνίγηκε ένας και τρεχαμε να δούμε πως και από τι έγινε και τον βγάλαν στην αμμουδιά αναίσθητο και το ασθενοφόρο έκανε κανένα 20λεπτο να εμφανιστεί. Λοιπόν στην παραλία κάποιος πήρε προμήθεια από την κατασκευή μεταλλικών πινακίδων. PEE HERE ! TO LET (κάποιος έφαγε το Ι από την τουαλέτα κι έγινε ενοικιαζόμενο δωμάτιο) SAMPLING SPOT HERE! Η δειγματοληψία μας μάρανε.. Εκεί που γίνεται, δίπλα ακριβώς είναι ένα ρέμα που κατεβάζει βατράχια φουσκωτά σαν αρουραίους.. και αρουραίους φυσικά ! Χτίσαν οι αλβανοί όμορφα πετρωτά κανάλια για τα όμβρια κλπ κλπ και στο τελείωμα τα σκάτωσαν. όλα χύμα στο κύμα! Στο Sampling Spot! 10 ξαπλώστρες αλυσοδεμένες ακόμα αχρησιμοποίητες, ξύλινες πλατφόρμες για τα άτομα με ειδικές ανάγκες, μηχάνημα να καθαρίζει και να ισιώνει την άμμο και ούτε ίχνος τουρίστα αυτές τις μέρες.. Αλήθεια ποιος θεωρείται τουρίστας σήμερα;
Η πόλη μου γέμισε Βούλγαρους και Ρουμάνους.. Από τη δεκαετία του 1910-1920 είχαν να φανούν τόσοι.. Και τί ακριβά αυτοκίνητα.. πάνω από 3500 cc. τα περισσότερα. Πήγα Ρουμανία και Βουλγαρία. Έξω από τις άβαφες παράγκες που ζούνε κι από μια λιμουζίνα.. κι ένα κάρο με άλογο..! γκραντ γκινιόλ καταστάσεις. Εδώ πάντως δεν είδα κανέναν να ψωνίζει.. α ναι στο Lidle..! Circular εκόνομυ.
Αλήθεια τί γίνεται με την κρίση; Πού πήγαν τα λεφτά που πήραν οι τράπεζες; Ευτυχώς δεν ανέβασαν ακόμα το ΦΠΑ, μαζεύουν παράνομους φόρους από την νομιμοφανή Περαίωση ακόμα από το 2001..! Ρε 2009 έχουμε που πάτε 10 χρόνια πριν; τους πεθαμένους θα φορολογείτε σήμερα; Εμ βέβαια εσείς έχετε την ασυλία σας και τις παραγραφές σας και σε τελική .. κλείνετε και τη Βουλή κι από εδώ παν κι οι άλλοι.. Πάμε διακοπές.γγρρ
Μας έστειλε και η ΔΕΗ καθυστερημένους λογαριασμούς και μας έστειλε κανονικά. Λέω να την πληρώσω με AEGEAN VISA BONUS να μου μείνουν και τα μίλια μπας και πεταχτώ για το Λονδίνο για να πάρω γάλα (που εκεί το ελληνικό γάλα είναι 3 φορές φτηνότερο από ότι εδώ)
Year One εν ελλάδι.. και μας βγάλανε το λάδι.. (πλέον στη feta cheese μου βάζω λάδι που είναι τόσο άχρωμο όσο αόρατο είναι και το τυρί)
Παλιά ακούγαμε για λιτότητα και δεν τη βλέπαμε.. τώρα τη νιώθουμε και φυσικά δεν την ακούμε ! γιατί με το που βγαίνουν στην τηλεόραση, κάνουμε zapping.. να δούμε καμια διαφήμιση να ..χορτάσουμε.. Φάτε μάτια ψάρια!
Ήπιαμε το αμίλητο νερό και ούτε ο Παπα - Λουκάς μας σώζει.. Ασε που ανεβαίνουν και οι φόροι κινητής. Με νούμερα Αγγλίας και Γερμανίας θα καταντήσουμε να επικοινωνούμε.. ίσως και με σήματα καπνού από βουνό σε βουνό... όπως κάναν οι αρχαίοι..
Είπα για αρχαίους... μα τι τηλεοπτικό mega-SPOT είναι αυτό που παίζει το Υπ. Τουρισμού στο CNN; GREECE 5000 YEARS.... Μάλλον ενοούν visit Greece, we are 5000 years behind the rest of the world..
Πάω να συνεχίσω να δημιουργώ gays και robbers στο The Sims 3... όνομασα και το σπίτι που μένουν Made in Greece... night night !

Θα σημάνουν οι Καμπάνες

Το ιστορικό τραγούδι του Μίκη Θεοδωράκη σε ποίηση Γιάννη Ρίτσου «Θα σημάνουν οι Καμπάνες» επέλεξαν οι ΜΠΛΕ και με την έγκριση του μεγάλου συνθέτη προχώρησαν σε μια (με όλη τη σημασία της λέξεως) διασκευή δίνοντας τον ήχο τους και τη δική τους αισθητική στο κλασσικό αυτό έργο του οποίου το νόημα παραμένει πάντα επίκαιρο.

Η διασκευή είναι αφιερωμένη στη μνήμη του Γιάννη Ρίτσου καθώς το 2009 συμπληρώνονται 100 χρόνια από τη γέννησή του.

Εισαγωγικό σημείωμα "Η ποντιακή διάλεκτος αποτελεί αδιάψευστη μαρτυρία της καταγωγής του Ποντιακού Ελληνισμού και τη φυλετική συνέχεια απο τους πρώτους αποίκους μέχρι σήμερα. Η Ποντιακή είναι μιά διάλεκτος της Ελληνικής γλώσσας που ξεκινά από τα χρόνια του αποικισμού των Ελλώνων της Ιωνίας και την εγκατάσταση τους στο Πόντο..."
Η απόδοση στα Ποντιακά έγινε απο τον καθηγητή του τ. Πανεπιστημίου Φιλολογίας Ιωαννίνων κο Γ. Σαββαντίδη. Σχετικά με την ιστορία Διακαής πόθος των Ρωμαίων είναι η αιχμαλωσία του γαλατικού χωριού και επειδή ο ευθύς τρόπος είναι χαμένος μιας και δια παντός και ταυτόχρονα :"...Πρέπ΄ να δίγ΄ατς έναν μάθεμαν και για τ΄ατό πρέπ΄να χάνω α σον κόσμον ατό καταραμένον το Γαλατικόν χωρίον..." πρέπει να βρεθούν άλλα μέσα για το στόχο και αυτή τη φορά επιλέγεται "Το Ζιζάνιον"!.
Εκπρόσωπος του νέου όπλου ο Φούλιους Ζιζάνιους που πίσω του αφήνει μόνο μπόρες, ανακατωσούρες και καυγάδες. Η γαλατική ψυχή όμως, αγνή σαν το λευκό περιστέρι, άδολη σαν νεογέννητο αρνάκι και "...Βάρβαροι! και ενωμέν άμον άγρα μουχτερά!" όπως λέει και ο εκατόνταρχος Αεροβάτους πέφτει στην παγίδα της πράσινης υποψίας και κιτρινόμαυρης διχόνοιας σαν τα μωρά που τσακώνονται για το σοκολατάκι!. Και το βράδυ στο γλέντι για τα γενέθλια του αρχηγού τους:" Ο τραγωδάνον έρτάτον πως σο τραπέζ΄ευρίεται μοναχός ατ...Θ΄εθάρνες έρθεν το τέλοσ τη χωρί!".Η κατάσταση χειροτερεύει, ο Ζιζάνιους σπέρνει ψεύτικες ειδήσεις:"Θα ευτάμ΄ ατς εθαρρούν ντο έχουμε το μαγικόν το ζωμίν και εγώ τάζω σας πως αγρήγορα οι Γαλάτες θα χωρίουνταν και θα χάνταν!". Η διάλυση είναι πλέον γεγονός κάτι που αφήνει τον αρχηγό να μονολογεί:"Κι ξέρω, παιδία, γιαμ εποίκαμε κανέναν παλαλοσύνεν...".Οι γαλάτες όμως μπορεί να είναι απονήρευτοι και αγαθοβιόληδες όσο και ένα νήπιο, μαθαίνουν όμως γρήγορα από τα λάθη τους και η ιστορική "Μάχη του χωρίου" ξανάδωσε φόρμα στους γαλάτες και πνοή στο ηθικό και στους Ρωμαίους πολλά καρούμπαλα. Α...διχόνοια είπατε; Μα ήταν μιά τρέλλα περαστική, γιατί όπως λέει και ο Οβελίξ:"Είναι παλαλοί ατοίν οι ανθρώπ΄!"...

Το λάθος του Γκρίνσπαν

Η παγκόσμια οικονομική κρίση θα περάσει στην ιστορία ως λάθος του Γκρίνσπαν. Πρόκειται για μια κρίση, για την οποία ευθύνεται, κυρίως, το συμβούλιο αξιωματούχων της Φέντεραλ Ριζέρβ, στη διάρκεια της εποχής εύκολου χρήματος και χαλαρού ρυθμιστικού πλαισίου στο χρηματοοικονομικό τομέα, μια εποχή που διήρκεσε από τα μέσα της δεκαετίας του '90 μέχρι σήμερα.
Η πολιτική εύκολου χρήματος, η οποία είχε την υποστήριξη ρυθμιστικών αρχών που στην πραγματικότητα απέτυχαν στη σύσταση ενός πλαισίου κανόνων, δημιούργησε άνευ προηγουμένου «φούσκες» στους τομείς κατοικιών και καταναλωτικής πίστης σε ΗΠΑ, αλλά και σε άλλες χώρες, κυρίως εκείνες τις χώρες που είχαν υιοθετήσει τακτικές ανάλογες με την πολιτική των ΗΠΑ.
Και η «φούσκα» έχει πλέον σκάσει και αυτές οι οικονομίες οδεύουν προς βαθιά οικονομική ύφεση. Και στον «πυρήνα» της κρίσης βρίσκεται η υπερβολική άνοδος μετοχικών αξιών και τιμών κατοικιών, μια άνοδος που είχε παρεκκλίνει σε μεγάλο βαθμό από τα ιστορικά δεδομένα. Ο κ. Γκρίνσπαν δημιούργησε δύο φούσκες -τη φούσκα εταιρειών Διαδικτύου, κατά το χρονικό διάστημα 1998-2001 και τη φούσκα στην αγορά κατοικιών, που έσκασε πρόσφατα.
Και στις δύο περιπτώσεις, η υπερβολική αύξηση στην αξία στοιχείων ενεργητικού έκανε τα αμερικανικά νοικοκυριά να σκεφθούν ότι είχαν γίνει πλούσια, με τους Αμερικανούς να μπαίνουν στον πειρασμό να αυξήσουν δυσανάλογα δανεισμό και δαπάνες -για σπίτια, αυτοκίνητα και άλλα καταναλωτικά διαρκή αγαθά.
Και οι χρηματοοικονομικές αγορές ήταν πρόθυμες να δανείσουν σε αυτά τα νοικοκυριά, εν μέρει διότι οι πιστωτικές αγορές λειτουργούσαν κάτω από ένα χαλαρό ρυθμιστικό πλαίσιο, το οποίο εξυπηρετούσε ως «πρόσκληση» για ανεύθυνο δανεισμό.
Και εξαιτίας του κλίματος ευημερίας σε χρηματιστήρια και αγορά στέγης, το καθαρό εισόδημα των αμερικανικών νοικοκυριών αυξήθηκε περίπου κατά 18 τρισ. δολάρια στη διάρκεια των ετών 1996-2006. Και η ενίσχυση της κατανάλωσης με βάση αυτόν τον πλούτο συνέβαλε σε περαιτέρω αύξηση των τιμών στέγης, πείθοντας νοικοκυριά και δανειστές να τροφοδοτήσουν ακόμη περισσότερο τη φούσκα.
Και κάποια στιγμή, όλα αυτά άρχισαν να καταρρέουν. Οι τιμές κατοικιών έφθασαν στα ανώτατα επίπεδα το 2006, και οι τιμές των μετοχών το 2007. Και με την κατάρρευση της φούσκας σε χρηματιστήριο και αγορά στέγης, τίτλοι περιουσιακών στοιχείων αξίας που ενδεχομένως να φθάνει και τα δέκα τρισ. δολάρια -ή μέχρι και τα 15 τρισ. δολάρια- θα καταστούν άχρηστοι.
Ορισμένα πολύπλοκα πράγματα συμβαίνουν ταυτοχρόνως.
Πρώτον, τα νοικοκυριά μειώνουν σε μεγάλο βαθμό τις καταναλωτικές τους δαπάνες, καθώς αισθάνονται -και συμβαίνει πράγματι- πολύ φτωχότερα εν συγκρίσει με την οικονομική τους κατάσταση πριν από ένα χρόνο.
Δεύτερο, ορισμένοι χρηματοοικονομικοί οργανισμοί υψηλής επιρροής, όπως η Bear Stearns και η Lehman Brothers κατέρρευσαν, σε μια εξέλιξη που συντέλεσε σε μεγαλύτερη απώλεια πλούτου (στους μετόχους και πιστωτές των συγκεκριμένων χρηματοπιστωτικών ιδρυμάτων) όπως και μεγαλύτερο περιορισμό των δανείων που κάποτε παρείχαν αυτές οι εταιρείες.
Τρίτον, οι εμπορικές τράπεζες έχασαν πολλά από ριψοκίνδυνες συναλλαγές, με το μεγαλύτερο μέρος του κεφαλαίου τους να εξανεμίζεται. Και την ώρα που η κεφαλαιακή τους βάση συρρικνώνεται, μειώνονται αναλόγως και τα μελλοντικά τους δάνεια.
Τέταρτο και τελευταίο, η κατάρρευση της Lehman Brothers και η παρ' ολίγον κατάρρευση του ασφαλιστικού ομίλου AIG προκάλεσαν έναν χρηματοοικονομικό «πανικό», στο πλαίσιο του οποίου ακόμη και οι οικονομικά υγιείς εταιρείες δεν είναι σε θέση να εξασφαλίσουν βραχυπρόθεσμα τραπεζικά δάνεια ή να πωλήσουν βραχυπρόθεσμο εταιρικό χρέος.
Η πρόκληση για τους διαμορφωτές πολιτικής είναι να αποκαταστήσουν την επενδυτική εμπιστοσύνη σε τέτοιο βαθμό που να μπορούν και πάλι οι επιχειρήσεις να εξασφαλίσουν βραχυπρόθεσμη πίστωση, ώστε να καλύψουν τις ανάγκες μισθοδοσίας εργαζομένων και να χρηματοδοτήσουν τα αποθέματά τους. Η επόμενη πρόκληση είναι τα μέτρα για την αποκατάσταση του κεφαλαίου των τραπεζών, έτσι ώστε οι εμπορικές τράπεζες να μπορούν και πάλι να παρέχουν δάνεια για μακροπρόθεσμες επενδύσεις.
Αλλά αυτά τα βήματα -όσο αναγκαία και αν είναι- δεν πρόκειται να αποτρέψουν την ύφεση στις ΗΠΑ και άλλες χώρες που έχουν υποστεί πλήγμα λόγω πιστωτικής κρίσης.
Οι αγορές κατοικιών και μετοχών δεν αναμένεται να ανακάμψουν σε σύντομο χρονικό διάστημα. Κατά συνέπεια, τα νοικοκυριά είναι φτωχότερα και θα περιορίσουν ακόμη περισσότερο τις δαπάνες, καθιστώντας -βραχυπρόθεσμα- αναπόφευκτη την ύφεση.
Οι ΗΠΑ θα υποστούν το ισχυρότερο πλήγμα, αλλά και άλλες χώρες με «φούσκες» σε αγορές κατοικιών και υπερβολική κατανάλωση (φούσκες που όμως έχουν σκάσει) -ειδικότερα Βρετανία, Ιρλανδία, Αυστραλία, Καναδάς και Ισπανία- αναμένεται να δεχθούν πλήγμα.
Η Ισλανδία, που ιδιωτικοποίησε και απελευθέρωσε τις τράπεζές της πριν από μερικά χρόνια, τώρα βρίσκεται στα πρόθυρα εθνικής χρεοκοπίας, διότι οι ισλανδικές τράπεζες δεν θα είναι σε θέση να αποπληρώσουν τους ξένους πιστωτές από τους οποίους είχαν πάρει μεγάλα δάνεια.
Και δεν αποτελεί σύμπτωση το γεγονός ότι -με εξαίρεση την Ισπανία- όλες αυτές οι χώρες είχαν υιοθετήσει την αμερικανική φιλοσοφία των ελεύθερων αγορών και των χαλαρών ρυθμιστικών πλαισίων για τα χρηματοοικονομικά συστήματα.
Όμως παρά τα προβλήματα που αντιμετωπίζουν οι αγγλο-σαξονικού τύπου οικονομίες, κανένα δεν είναι τόσο σοβαρό που να εγκυμονεί τον κίνδυνο παγκόσμιας οικονομικής καταστροφής. Δεν διακρίνω κάποιο λόγο για ύφεση της παγκόσμιας οικονομίας, ούτε καν για επιβράδυνση της παγκόσμιας οικονομίας.
Ναι, οι ΗΠΑ θα βιώσουν μια φάση μείωσης του εισοδήματος και δραματικής αύξησης της ανεργίας, περιορίζοντας τις εξαγωγές των υπολοίπων χωρών του κόσμου προς τις ΗΠΑ. Αλλά οι οικονομίες σε πολλά άλλα μέρη της Γης συνεχίζουν και αναπτύσσονται. Πολλές μεγάλες οικονομίες -συμπεριλαμβανομένης Κίνας, Γερμανίας, Ιαπωνίας και Σαουδικής Αραβίας- διαθέτουν πολύ μεγάλα πλεονάσματα εξαγωγών, έχοντας έτσι τη δυνατότητα να δανείζουν στον υπόλοιπο κόσμο (και ειδικότερα τις ΗΠΑ) αντί να δανείζονται χρήματα.
Αυτές οι χώρες έχουν μεγάλες ποσότητες μετρητών και δεν επιβαρύνονται από την κατάρρευση μιας φούσκας στην αγορά κατοικιών. Παρόλο που τα νοικοκυριά τους κατά κάποιον τρόπο έχουν υποστεί πλήγμα από την υποχώρηση των μετοχικών αξιών, όχι μόνο έχουν τα περιθώρια να συνεχίσουν να αναπτύσσονται, αλλά μπορούν να αυξήσουν την εσωτερική ζήτηση ώστε να αντισταθμίσουν τη μείωση της εξαγωγικής δραστηριότητας προς τις ΗΠΑ.
Θα πρέπει να μειώσουν τους φόρους, να χαλαρώσουν τις προϋποθέσεις δανεισμού και να αυξήσουν τις κρατικές επενδύσεις σε δρόμους, ηλεκτρική ενέργεια και στέγαση. Οι χώρες αυτές διαθέτουν αρκετά μεγάλα αποθέματα ξένου συναλλάγματος, ώστε να αποφύγουν τον κίνδυνο χρηματοοικονομικής αποσταθεροποίησης λόγω της αύξησης των δαπανών στην εγχώρια αγορά, αρκεί να κινηθούν με σύνεση.
Όσο για τις ΗΠΑ, το αδιαμφισβήτητο βάρος που επωμίζονται εκατομμύρια Αμερικανοί -βάρος που θα μεγαλώσει την επόμενη χρονιά, καθώς αυξάνεται η ανεργία- αποτελεί μια καλή ευκαιρία για επανεξέταση του οικονομικού μοντέλου που υιοθετήθηκε επί εποχής του προέδρου Ρίγκαν, το 1981. (???)
Οι χαμηλοί φόροι και το χαλαρό ρυθμιστικό πλαίσιο συνέβαλε σε μια «ευφορία» καταναλωτικών δαπανών που ήταν ωραία όσο διήρκεσε, αλλά παράλληλα δημιούργησε τεράστια ανισότητα μεταξύ των εισοδημάτων, διόγκωση του ξένου δανεισμού, συνέβαλε στην παραμέληση του περιβάλλοντος και των έργων υποδομής, συντελώντας στο τεράστιο χρηματοοικονομικό χάος των ημερών. Έχει έλθει ο καιρός για μια νέα οικονομική στρατηγική -στην ουσία, για μια Νέα Συμφωνία.

Mediterranean Sea Under Siege by Military and Industrial Abuse

REGION:
Countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea include Malta, Italy, Cyprus, Lebanon, Palestine, Israel, Morocco, Tunisia and former Yugoslavia. The Maltese Islands lie in the center of the Mediterranean Sea and support some 360,000 native inhabitants and 600,000 visitors a year.

The Association of Women of the Mediterranean Region (AWMR), founded in 1992, developed from Malta's Women for Peace and Equality network of women who shared a concern for the cumulative and chronic contamination of the Mediterranean Sea. Committed to regional and world peace and sustainable development, AWMR's aim is to formulate and initiate common action to achieve a Mediterranean region free of pollution; to halt wanton ecological destruction; and to safeguard not only our sea, but also our air, water and soil. The Association believes in the fundamental right of all peoples, irrespective of gender, race, creed or class, to fresh water and clean seas.

Abstract

Oil spills, military exercises and toxic trade increasingly threaten the Mediterranean Sea. The growing degradation of the marine environment poses threats to the region's economy as well as to the health of people in the region. Women activists from all countries bordering the Mediterranean have joined together to work on strategies to educate and mobilize international action in response to the worsening problem.

Cause of the Environmental Crisis

The World Health Organization estimated in 1992 that one-third of the children swimming in the Mediterranean Sea would subsequently fall ill within two weeks. What used to be called flotsam and jetsam is now large-scale dumping of toxic chemicals. The oil tankers plying the Mediterranean spill or leak an amount of oil 17 times the size of the Exxon Valdez catastrophe every year, according to a 1992 report in 'The Economist.' They do so with complete immunity.

In addition, constant military exercises and the increasing number of hostilities in the Mediterranean area lead to residues of gasoline, solvents, weapons, and munitions which find their way into the sea. Worse, where the U.S. sixth fleet houses nuclear-powered submarines at ports in Sardinia and Crete, there has been so much radioactive waste that the sea is considered dead in that area. According to the Attorney General of Reggio, Guido Neri, the Neapolitan Mafia or "Ndrangheta" is responsible for the mysterious sinking of 25 ships, each full of radioactive waste, around the coast of Italy between 1992 and 1993. One ringleader, Georgio Comerio, is not in jail for dumping 5,000 tons of lethal waste in our seas but instead "enjoys the support of banks, institutions, and influential people in business and politics," according to Neri. This waste will have toxic and carcinogenic effects on millions of people. A warning sign is the rise in leukemia rates among children and adult inhabitants of nearby fishing ports.

The recent history of violence in the Mediterranean, especially the Israeli-Arab wars, the 1974 Turkish occupation of one third of the island of Cyprus, the war in former Yugoslavia and continued violence in Algeria have all taken a serious toll on the physical and psychological health of the Mediterranean people. Wars and war games not only destroy the environment with toxic and radioactive contamination and increase the incidence of violent behavior in society, they also increase the scarcity of essential resources such as clean drinking water, safe and hygienic living conditions and nutritious food.

Mediterranean countries officially engage in toxic trade. The Italian government shipped some 16,000 barrels containing over 24,000 tons of hazardous waste from Italy to Beirut between 1987 and 1988. "The barrels of solid waste with chlorinated substances and toxic heavy metals are ecological time bombs in Lebanon's soil and waters," according to GFouad Hamdan of Greenpeace Mediterranean.

The dumping of toxic wastes in the Mediterranean Sea is in direct violation of the Barcelona Convention signed by all Mediterranean States in 1975. But oil spilled daily by multinational oil companies and military pollution, are not covered by the terms of this regional pact. The UN must address these abuses.

The complete lack of education about the hazards of these international and local practices is shocking. In fact, many Mediterranean farmers are officially encouraged to use dangerous pesticides and many local governments allow untreated sewage and industrial effluence to flow straight into coastal waters.

Impact of the Environmental Crisis

According to a 1995 AWMR report, in just three countries of the Southern Mediterranean - Algeria, Morocco and Egypt - over 39 million people have no basic sanitation and, as a result, 550,000 children died before the age of five in 1990 alone. The lack of good nutrition, clean water and sanitary facilities means maternal mortality rates are 200 to 300 per 100,000 live births in the South compared to an average of 10 per 100,000 in the Northern Mediterranean. Resources have been diverted to military expansion instead of sustainable development, and fighting poverty and unsanitary conditions. This has encouraged the reemergence of tuberculosis and other acute infectious respiratory diseases in Algeria and Bosnia in the 1990s. In Bosnia, cancers of the stomach and colon have also increased among people of all ages.

The French nuclear tests in the Sahara began with an above ground explosion at Reggane on February 16, 1960 and continued until the test site was moved to French Polynesia in 1996. Radioactive clouds from the Algerian Sahara tests traveled over Libya and around the Mediterranean. The negative effects on health and development in downwind Mediterranean countries are suggested by the epidemic rise in cancer rates in subsequent decades. "Nothing is known of the extinct Tuareg tribes that once roamed the region. Their camels and cattle died soon after the tests. No survey has been done of the surviving workers at the sites. Testimonies gathered in 1992 speak of sterile women, cancers, of whole tribes having disappeared, of dying camels and other animals," according to Solange Fernex of AWMR.

The Mediterranean island of Cyprus has suffered a phenomenal increase of over 1000% in the incidence of cancers between 1960 and 1990 (3 new cases per 10,000 people in 1960 compared to 2000 new cases of cancer diagnosed in 1990). The Maltese Islands, that lie northeast of Algeria, are affected by the sirocco wind from the Sahara desert. The total number of cancer deaths per 1000 of the population rose by over 73% in the 1960-1993 period. Female breast cancer mortality rates increased by 150% in just two decades. By the end of the 1980s Malta had the highest female breast cancer mortality rate in the world (California Journal for Clinicians, 1989). A phenomenal increase in skin cancer deaths also occurred in the 1960s in Malta (Maltese Society 1994:195). Today, one in four deaths in Malta are due to cancer.

The Mediterranean Sea is so contaminated that it is hard to find a bay which is clean enough to swim in. Apart from ear and throat infections suffered by swimmers, there are increasing numbers of people with immune system disorders, chronic fatigue, diarrhea, hearing loss, and increased susceptibility to every passing infection. Meanwhile, the incidence of deadly cancers has been rising in the region.

The toll is not limited to the people who swim in the Mediterranean Sea. Prevalence of health problems has affected income from tourism in many places. The variety, quantity, and quality of fish, which is a staple for many households and a source of income for others, have diminished, often with disastrous multiplier effects. Marsaxlokk used to be the most prosperous fishing port in Malta, now it struggles with depleted fishing reserves and pollution from a new oil-fired power station.

The full negative impact of sea pollution on drinking water, salt and fish from the Mediterranean Sea has yet to be measured. The cumulative toxic and radioactive wastes are entering the food chain to the detriment of all, especially the young, elderly, and those already weakened by sickness.

Response to the Environmental Crisis

Women of the Mediterranean region share a vital concern about the health and welfare of their families. They are concerned about commercial and state practices that harm their livelihoods and contaminate their water. Apart from joining the occasional demonstration, many women feel powerless to prevent what they term "regress" or maldevelopment. Local governments tend to be slow, bureaucratic and ineffective. Industry is notoriously negligent if not criminal in its hazardous waste practices especially where environmental legislation is weak or poorly implemented. The United Nations Development Programme and United Nations Environmental Programme Mediterranean Action Plan based in Greece have not made any measurable impact in addressing this ecological disaster.

"I have come here to regain my childhood," said Mona Selmy of Egypt at the founding conference of AWMR. She had grown up on the shores of the Mediterranean near Alexandria and has seen a healthy sea become polluted and sick. We have all similarly lost our ancient maritime heritage, and many have lost their health. Association members, through educational and activist work on these issues, have become powerful forces for progressive change in many Mediterranean countries such as Malta, Italy, Cyprus, Lebanon, Palestine, Israel, Morocco, Tunisia and the countries of former Yugoslavia.

At every local meeting and regional conference of the Association, the devastating effects of the military/ industry, wars, and embargoes on the environment, natural resources, and health have been exposed. The primary aims of the organization are "to work toward the peaceful resolution of conflicts and to demilitarize and denuclearize the Mediterranean Region while fostering the health and wellbeing of the most vulnerable among us and ending all forms of discrimination and poverty." The Association's newsletters, books, conferences, solidarity actions and international interventions have served to educate on the issues of industrial and governmental malpractices and the fundamental right to clean seas and fresh water. The prosperity and cleanliness of the Mediterranean Sea, on which the personal and economic health of so many depends, are the determinants and the gauge of our movement's success.

Representatives of the association participated in the International Conference on Health at Miami in 1991 and the UN Conference on Human Settlements at Istanbul in 1996. They have held annual regional conferences for women activists and writers, inviting international experts to speak on such issues as community health, environmental contamination, and military-industrial practices. The association is educating local communities on the illnesses caused by toxic exposures and encouraging community health studies.

Recommendations for Action

At the 1995 AWMR conference on Health in the Mediterranean participants voted for a pro-active position on alternative energy. Women from 17 countries, approved the following resolution, addressed to the November 1995 Mediterranean and Sustainable Development conference:
Considering the steps taken by states in favor of sustainable development in Rio in 1992; Considering the conclusions of the Climate Summit in Berlin, in Spring 1995; Considering the Chernobyl disaster, and the damage done to health and the environment; Considering the constant risk of similar accidents; and considering the unsolved problem of nuclear waste; We request that the states participating in the Barcelona conference prepare to:
Launch a multi-media information campaign on the conservation of energy, economy, and renewable sources of energy which would enable the replacement of fossil fuel and nuclear energy sources;
Launch effective and courageous policies of energy conversion to utilize renewable energy, solar panels, photo-voltaic energy, wind, biomass, etc., and begin equipping buildings and public installations;
Subsidize investments of private installations which conserve energy and utilize renewable energy sources;
Impose a tariff on electricity distributors that correctly reflects the cost of production, favoring decentralized and renewable sources of energy, in a way that will stimulate public and private investments in this area;
Present the results of these political measures in the field of energy conservation and utilization to the international community.
Additional recommendations include the need for all governments with military presence in the region to reduce military expenditures and interventions and prevent the deleterious effects on natural resources such as water and health.
The value of women's activism and importance of women's concerns have yet to be recognized by many official bodies. Representatives from women's NGOs should be invited to participate in all relevant forums and their recommendations must be seriously considered and implemented.

Στο τέλος του κηρύγματός του ο παπάς δίνει τα αποτελέσμα της διαδικασίας αυτής:

Young offender 'hanged in Iran'

Human rights groups say Iran has executed another juvenile offender, despite apparently saying recently that it was halting such executions.
Human Rights Watch said an Afghan national, convicted of murder at the age of 17, was executed last week.
The central judiciary has not confirmed the news from Isfahan. It would be the seventh such execution in 2008.
Iran appeared to say it was ending the practice last month, but later said victims' families had the final say.
The New York-based Human Rights Watch said the Afghan man, identified as Gholamreza H, was hanged in Isfahan province on 30 October.
He was 19 when the execution was carried out, but had been convicted for a murder he committed in November 2006 as a 17-year-old.
Retaliation, not execution
Human Rights Watch says 26 juvenile offenders have been executed in Iran since January 2005, out of a worldwide total of 32 known executions.
The execution was announced by judicial officials in Isfahan province, the group says, although at a recent news conference in Tehran, the judiciary spokesman said he was not aware of the case.
The Iranian government recently announced an end to child executions, but a few days later a spokesman made it clear that did not include so called "blood money" or "Qeisas" cases, which make up the vast majority of executions.
According to the Justice Ministry spokesman, these cases are not technically "execution" but "retaliation" on behalf of victims' families which is sanctioned by Islamic law and cannot be repealed.

US air raid kills Afghan civilians

Villagers in southern Afghanistan say that dozens of civilians, including women and children attending a wedding party in Kandahar, have been killed in a US air raid.Hamid Karzai, the Afghan president, condemned the killings and said on Wednesday that 40 people were killed and 28 wounded as a result of an air raid in the Shah Wali Kot district of Kandahar province.
US officials in Afghanistan confirmed that a number of civilians had been killed and said that an investigation was under way."We acknowledge some civilians have been injured and some may have been killed," Colonel Greg Julian, a spokesman for the US forces in Afghanistan, told the AFP news agency.
'Collateral damage'"I can't confirm numbers," Julian said, adding the military regretted every time civilians became "collateral damage" when troops tried to take out anti-government fighters.Witnesses accompanying the wounded to Kandahar's main hospital said the dead included at least 23 children and 10 women."Seven women, including the bride, and three children were admitted to hospital in Kandahar," an AFP news agency reporter said.

Local residents said the attack was carried out after Taliban fighters fired on a US convoy in the Shah Wali Kot area of the province on Monday.David Chater, reporting for Al Jazeera from Afghanistan, said he had been told by a cameraman that a coalition patrol had gone through a village and was fired on by Taliban fighters."As a result of that Taliban fire they called in closed air support and there was a wedding party going on in that village - there were some 90 people in a house - and the missile landed there," he said.
Grief-stricken relativeRoozben Khan, the father of the bride, said he had lost six relatives."I lost two sons, two grandsons, a nephew, my mother and a cousin," Khan said.His daughter was among seven of his relatives who were wounded. The groom survived but his father, mother and sister were killed, he said.Mullah Mohammad Asim, the village cleric, said he had counted 36 bodies."They bombed six to seven houses. They pounded and fired into the village from afternoon until midnight," Asim said."At midnight, the Americans came and they took the men out of the houses and handcuffed them. But when they saw the death and the destruction, they removed the handcuffs and told us to take the wounded to hospital," he said.The bombing is the latest in a string of incidents in which the US military has been accused of attacking innocent civilians.The attacks have caused major friction between the US and the Afghan government.

Στη forthnet που κάλεσα μου λένε.. Δε μετράμε πλέον σε μονάδες και δεν έχουμε κανένα τέτοιο πρόγραμμα

Κάλεσε τη μαμά μου κάποια κοπέλα από το "τοπικό παράρτημα" της TELLAS. Φυσικά η γυναίκα τους παρέπεμψε σε μένα.

SCRABULOUS, which has already been pulled from Facebook in the US and Canada has now been banned throughout the world.

Facebook was forced to remove Scrabulous after one of Scrabble’s rights owners, Mattel made a formal removal request and the developers of Scrabulous took no action to fight back.

The only place you can play Scrabulous is in India, where its developers live and where Mattel has filed an IP lawsuit.

Even the little guys get their say!

According to AP, Facebook isn’t blocking Scrabulous there for now because it is a matter for the Indian courts.

Facebook had hoped Mattel would go away after Rajat and Jayant Agarwalla, the brothers in Calcutta who created Scrabulous, agreed to withdraw the program in the US and Canada.

The popularity of Scrabulous – which saw over 600,000 people a day logging in to play – was actually the undoing of the game as it prompted Mattel to create its own online version of Scrabble (with Electronic Arts) and start legal action against Scrabulous for copyright infringement.

If you’re that much of a fan, I guess you will be boarding the next flight out, we are kidding.

I challenge all to go after page 58 where the propaganda of Slavs of F.Y.R.O.M. somehow ends of this newer issue of the ABECEDAR and to compare those simple words with the SLAVIC words of the http://bs.wikipedia.org

This book was written “not for any Macedonian minority” cause there wasn’t any, but for the Greek Population in the borders that were speaking also this Slavic language as well as Greek in the area of Florina an area that is in the borders with the Ex - Yugoslavia. A language that is spoken today by the Bosnians (probably another dialect).

For the name “F.Y.R.O.M.” I personally don’t accept the M that stand for Macedonia and they use it, cause I consider them a mix of Slavic, Albanian, Bulgarian, Greek and any other origin that moved into the area and not of Macedonian origin because that would need at least a DNA comparison with Great Alexander’s and Philipp’s corpses, which ancient Macedonians were considering themselves Greeks as they are today in the Greek territory after the REUNION of Greece after the Ottoman empire although they had fights with the Athenian city-country.

It’s too bad that the Serbs didn’t give the whole Macedonia back to Greece and kept that part after Ottoman Empire. We would be one soul one country.

I’m not going to write more cause for me its OBVIOUS and I’ m really fed up with their attitude.

ΕΝΑΣ παππούς 80 χρονών πάει στο γιατρό για γενικό τσεκάπ.

- Πώς αισθάνεστε;

- Ποτέ δεν ένιωσα καλύτερα. Είμαι παντρεμένος με μια 25χρονη, με την οποία περνάω θαυμάσια, και μάλιστα είναι και έγκυος. Μου ετοιμάζει παιδί.

Ο γιατρός τον κοιτάει για λίγα δευτερόλεπτα σκεπτικός.

Μετά τις υπέρογκες αυξήσεις του ηλεκτρικού ρεύματος το 2007 η ΔΕΗ σχεδιάζει να μας χαρατσώσει με 7% από 1^η Ιουλίου 2008

ΔΕΥΤΕ ΛΑΒΕΤΕ… ΦΩΣ

«Τον Αύγουστο του 1950 ιδρύεται η Δημόσια Επιχείρηση Ηλεκτρισμού, για να λειτουργήσει "χάριν του δημοσίου συμφέροντος" με σκοπό τη χάραξη και εφαρμογή μιας εθνικής ενεργειακής πολιτικής, η οποία μέσα από την εντατική εκμετάλλευση των εγχώριων πόρων, να κάνει το ηλεκτρικό ρεύμα κτήμα και δικαίωμα του κάθε Έλληνα πολίτη, στη φθηνότερη δυνατή τιμή.»([1])

Τα τελευταία χρόνια αυτή, η κοινωνική, πολιτική καταργήθηκε από λάτρεις της κερδοσκοπίας. Οι οποίοι αφού ξεπούλησαν το 49% της επιχείρησης στις παγκόσμιες εταιρείες, στην συνέχεια αύξησαν το οικιακό ηλεκτρικό ρεύμα πάνω από 30%! Ενώ η τιμή πώλησης του ηλεκτρικού ρεύματος από την ΔΕΗ στις μεγάλες επιχειρήσεις παραμένει κάτω του κόστους. Έτσι ο οικιακός καταναλωτής επιδοτεί τις μεγάλες επιχειρήσεις. Ο βασικός τους στόχος είναι η κατάργηση τελείως του κοινωνικού ρόλου της ΔΕΗ και η δημιουργία προϋποθέσεων για να μπούν περισσότεροι κερδοσκόποι στην πίτα της παραγωγής ενέργειας.

Και όλα αυτά σε βάρος των καταναλωτών, που με τα χρήματά τους έκανε η ΔΕΗ όλα της τα μεγάλα έργα, όλα τα πάγια περιουσιακά της στοιχεία. Έτσι από το 2004 οι αυξήσεις στην τιμή του οικιακού ρεύματος ξεπέρασαν κατά πολύ τον ετήσιο πληθωρισμό, δηλαδή ξεπέρασαν τις αυξήσεις των εισοδημάτων των μισθοσυντήρητων καταναλωτών, που με ευλάβεια οι κυβερνήσεις τις κρατούν εκεί χαμηλά στον πληθωρισμό. Οι απανωτές αυξήσεις στα τιμολόγια της ΔΕΗ όχι μόνο δεν κάνουν το ηλεκτρικό ρεύμα κτήμα και δικαίωμα του κάθε Έλληνα πολίτη, στη φθηνότερη δυνατή τιμή… αλλά αντίθετα έχουν αρχίσει να μας επιστρέφουν στην εποχή του λύχνου.([2])

Οι μισθωτοί, οι μικροβιοτέχνες, οι αγρότες όλοι οι Έλληνες καταναλωτές απαιτούν την άρση του Χριστουγεννιάτικου μποναμά της ΔΕΗ, καθώς και του Καλοκαιρινού μποναμά του 7% γενικής αύξησης του ηλεκτρικού ρεύματος, που προγραμματίζεται για την πρώτη του Ιουλίου. Οι χρεώσεις είναι ήδη υπέρογκες και δυσβάσταχτες για τα ελληνικά νοικοκυριά, που ήδη βάλλονται από μαζικές αυξήσεις παρεχομένων υπηρεσιών και προϊόντων.

Για να μην παθαίνουμε ταχυκαρδία και εφίδρωση όταν χρειάζεται να ανάψουμε το φως ή να βάλουμε πλυντήριο… πριν τα μεσάνυχτα, απαιτούμε:

1. Να μην ενεργοποιηθούν οι από 1/7/2008 αυξήσεις και να αρθούν αυτές από την 1/1/2008, στην τιμή πώλησης του ηλεκτρικού ρεύματος από την ΔΕΗ στους οικιακούς καταναλωτές, στους αγρότες και στους βιοτέχνες.

2. Να αναπτυχθεί με πιό εντατικούς ρυθμούς η αξιοποίηση των ανανεώσιμων πηγών ενέργειας από την ΔΕΗ. Να δοθούν επιπλέον κίνητρα γι’ αυτό από την πολιτεία

3. Να επιδοτηθεί κατά 50% η εγκατάσταση στα κτίρια παραγωγής ενέργειας από ανανεώσιμες πηγές. Να μειωθεί σε 4,5% ο ΦΠΑ όλων των μηχανημάτων και εξαρτημάτων παραγωγής ενέργειας από ανανεώσιμες πηγές ενέργειας.

4. Να υποχρεωθούν όλα τα νέα κτίρια να παράγουν και να αυτοκαταναλώνουν ενέργεια από ανανεώσιμες πηγές ενέργειας.

5. Οι ετήσιες αυξήσεις της τιμής πώλησης του ηλεκτρικού ρεύματος από την ΔΕΗ, να μην ξεπερνούν τον πληθωρισμό.

Καλούμε τους καταναλωτές να είναι σε εγρήγορση, ώστε να προχωρήσουμε:

Σε ημερήσια (Σαββατιάτικα) μποϋκοτάζ ηλεκτρικού ρεύματος
Σε ασφαλιστικά μέτρα ενάντια στην αύξηση της τιμής πώλησης του ηλεκτρικού ρεύματος από την ΔΕΗ. Τον ερχόμενο Σεπτέμβριο εκδικάζεται και η συλλογική αγωγή ενάντια στην ΔΕΗ για τις αυξήσεις.
Στο να μεθοδεύσουμε να μην πληρώσουμε την ΕΡΤ στους λογαριασμούς, για να τιμωρήσουμε τους ηθικούς αυτουργούς των αυξήσεων και της ακρίβειας.

«… τα κέρδη της ΔΕΗ Α.Ε. για το έτος 2007 αυξήθηκαν κατά 905,9% και έφτασαν στο ποσό των 222.300.000 Ευρώ. Για να συλλάβουμε το μέτρο του ποσού ας το μετατρέψουμε σε δραχμές, τα κέρδη της ΔΕΗ Α.Ε. ήταν πάνω από 75 δισεκατομμύρια δραχμές !!!. 75 δισεκατομμύρια δραχμές (75.000.000.000) κέρδη, που πλήρωσε ο έλληνας πολίτης – καταναλωτής, όχι ως αντίτιμο του ρεύματος αλλά ως κέρδη – επιβληθείσα μονομερώς υπεραξία κερδοφορίας του προϊόντος. Είχε συνεπώς προ της αυξήσεως τιμολογίων της 1/12/2007, διαμορφωθεί ένα τιμολογιακό καθεστώς που προσέφερε τεράστια και υπέρογκα κέρδη στην καθής.

Στο 1ο τρίμηνο του 2008, οπότε εφαρμόστηκε και έδειξε τα «αποτελέσματά» της, η προσβαλλόμενη αύξηση μηνός Δεκεμβρίου 2007, τα κέρδη της Δ.Ε.Η. Α.Ε. έφτασαν τα 113.346.000 Ευρώ. Μέσα δηλαδή σε ένα τρίμηνο με τις αισχροκερδείς και παράνομες προσβαλλόμενες αυξήσεις τα κέρδη της ΔΕΗ ήταν ξεπέρασαν τα 38,5 δισεκατομμύρια δραχμές !!!. 38,5 δισεκατομμύρια δραχμές κέρδη μέσα σε ένα μόνο τρίμηνο, εις βάρος και από την τσέπη του έλληνα καταναλωτή.

Η τεράστια αύξηση του κόστους του ηλεκτρικού ρεύματος είναι σαφής και πρόδηλη για όλους τους καταναλωτές και εκατομμύρια συμπολίτες μας είναι βέβαιο ότι δεν μπορούν να αντεπεξέλθουν, να επιβιώσουν, από το άγριο, ανθρωποβόρο σαφάρι της κερδοσκοπίας.»

Νέες ρευστοποιήσεις ομολόγων από το ΤΕΒΕ

Καταρρέει ο Οργανισμός Ασφάλισης Ελευθέρων Επαγγελματιών, που ακόμη και αν πουλήσει την περιουσία του έχει χρήματα για τις συντάξεις για λιγότερο από 12 μήνες.

Η ΓΣΕΒΕΕ στέλνει σήμα κινδύνου και επιρρίπτει βαρύτατες ευθύνες στην κυβέρνηση για τη σημερινή κατάσταση, επισημαίνοντας πως «σκηνοθετείται» η οικονομική κατάρρευση του ασφαλιστικού φορέα με στόχο τη μείωση των συντάξεων.

Σήμερα, σύμφωνα με πληροφορίες, αναμένεται να υπάρξει νέα απόφαση του διοικητικού συμβουλίου του ταμείου για την πώληση και άλλων περιουσιακών στοιχείων (πιθανότατα μετοχές και ομόλογα).

Σε ανάλογες κινήσεις είχε προχωρήσει και πέρσι ο φορέας των αυτοαπασχολουμένων σε μια προσπάθεια να βρει λεφτά για τις συντάξεις.

«Το ταμείο πέρασε από καιρό στα όρια της κατάρρευσης», σημειώνεται σε επιστολή της Συνομοσπονδίας προς την υπουργό Απασχόλησης Φάνη Πάλλη - Πετραλιά, επισημαίνοντας πως μετά την ενοποίηση (το 2007) άρχισε η εκποίηση περιουσιακών στοιχείων.

Οι εκπρόσωποι των επαγγελματοβιοτεχνών βλέπουν σχέδιο για μείωση συντάξεων από 30% έως και 40%, κάτι που θα επιτευχθεί «μέσα από τη διαδικασία του οικονομικού στραγγαλισμού του ασφαλιστικού οργανισμού».

Χαρακτηριστικά στην επιστολή τονίζεται πως«με τον τελευταίο νόμο 3655/2008 και την προσθήκη- ενοποίηση σε ένα ήδη οικονομικά προβληματικό οργανισμό, τριών νέων ελλειμματικών ταμείων, χωρίς αναλογιστικές μελέτες, χωρίς μέριμνα για κάλυψη ελλειμμάτων, στην πραγματικότητα νομοθετήθηκε και σκηνοθετήθηκε με εγκληματική προχειρότητα η οικονομική κατάρρευση του ΟΑΕΕ».

Over the past two years, Greece has staged a “real onslaught” onto the Bulgarian and other Balkan markets, Greek business newspaper Imerisia reported on May 7.

Greek construction companies, mainly from the northern part of the country, have been building large residential, office and retail developments in Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania and, recently, Macedonia.

At the same time, hundreds of individual investors have been buying homes, which they either rent or use for recreation.

Despite the recent spike in Bulgaria, Greek buyers still believe local property prices to be affordable, Imerisia said.

Greek buyers are most interested in property in the coastal Varna and Bourgas, as well as the ski resort of Bansko. While the price cap for coastal property is 2700 euro a sq m, in mountain resorts it hovers at around 570-590 euro a sq m.

Greece is not as keen on other Balkan states because of the surge of property prices in recent years. A new apartment in Bucharest, for example, sells at 1700 euro a sq m, whereas Serbian rates are comparable to those in Greece, at about 2200 euro a sq m.

Even since astronaut Dave Bowman disconnected the HAL 9000’s holographic memory in 2001: A Space Odyssey techies have been wondering when we could buy real holographic storage. Now we know: May, 2008.

Promising super-high density and excellent media flaw resistance, holographic storage has been an ever-receeding technology for years. You can buy nifty 3D skull and crossbones holograms - technically a form of storage - but no one had figured out how to turn a lab project into a product. Until now.

Update: I added a video of the device and media and VP Liz Murphy talks about the company and the product. About 110 seconds. The clear yellow plastic cover on the device is for display purposes only. End update.

How does it work?
Holograms use 2 coherent laser beams - a reference beam and an illumination beam - to create an interference pattern that is recorded on photo sensitive media. Shine a laser on the recorded interference pattern and the original image is reconstructed in glorious 3D. As the laser moves around - or you do - you see the image from different perspectives.

Holographic storage has a couple of neat properties.

A small fragment of a hologram can reconstruct the entire data image. The fragment won’t let you move as far around the image, but for 2D images, like a photograph, it means a scratch isn’t fatal.
Data density is theoretically unlimited. By varying the angle between the reference and illumination beams - or the angle of the media - hundreds of holograms can be stored in the same physical area.
Another factor: photographic media has the longest proven lifespan - over a century - of any modern media. Since there’s no physical contact you can read the media millions of times with no degradation.

Really hard problems
The first laser holograms were made over 45 years ago. But a storage device needs to be fast, dense and manufacturable. InPhase had to literally invent almost every piece of the system.

The optical media.
The manufacturing process for fabricating thick, optically-flat and high-dynamic range media.
The mathematics and circuitry needed to use digital camera CMOS chips for high-speed and high-accuracy image reconstruction.
A new method - polytopic multiplexing - for a 10x density increase.
Holographic mastering techniques for commercial reproduction.

Target market
Which gets us to InPhase’s target market: archiving. That’s why they were showing at NAB.

They’ve spec’d the optical media they use - a 5.25″ clear disk in a cartridge - at 50 years. For film and video companies whose data is literally irreplaceable a stable, compact and random access medium is a no-brainer.

Retail pricing
It is that value that justifies a price - $18,000 - that will keep most of us from buying ourselves an early Xmas gift. The quantity 1 media price of $180 for 300 GB looks expensive to us, but quite reasonable compared with the cost of 35mm film stock and long-term storage.

15 years ago a 3x CD reader cost a few hundred dollars. Perhaps in 15 years holographic burners will be $50 and the media less than a $1.

It's not easy to write a book. First, you have to pick a title. And then there is the table of contents. If you want the book to be categorized, either by a bookseller or a library, it has to be assigned a unique numerical code, like an ISBN, for International Standard Book Number. There have to be proper margins.
Finally, there's the back cover. Oh, and there is all that stuff in the middle, too. The writing.
Philip M. Parker seems to have licked that problem. Parker has generated more than 200,000 books, as an advanced search on Amazon.com under his publishing company shows, making him, in his own words, "the most published author in the history of the planet." And he makes money doing it.
Among the books published under his name are The Official Patient's Sourcebook on Acne Rosacea ($24.95 and 168 pages long); Stickler Syndrome: A Bibliography and Dictionary for Physicians, Patients and Genome Researchers ($28.95 for 126 pages); and The 2007-2012 Outlook for Tufted Washable Scatter Rugs, Bathmats and Sets That Measure 6-Feet by 9-Feet or Smaller in India ($495 for 144 pages).
But these are not conventional books, and it is perhaps more accurate to call Parker a compiler than an author. Parker, who is also the chaired professor of management science at Insead (a business school with campuses in Fontainebleau, France, and Singapore), has developed computer algorithms that collect publicly available information on a subject--broad or obscure--and, aided by his 60 to 70 computers and six or seven programmers, he turns the results into books in a range of genres, many of them in the range of 150 pages and printed only when a customer buys one.
If this sounds like cheating to the layman's ear, it does not to Parker, who holds some provocative--and apparently profitable--ideas on what constitutes a book. While the most popular of his books may sell hundreds of copies, he said, many have sales in the dozens, often to medical libraries collecting nearly everything he produces. He has extended his technique to crossword puzzles, rudimentary poetry, and even to scripts for animated game shows.
And he is laying the groundwork for romance novels generated by new algorithms. "I've already set it up," he said. "There are only so many body parts."
Perusing a work like the outlook for bathmat sales in India, a reader would be hard-pressed to find an actual sentence that was "written" by the computer. If you were to open a book, you would find a title page, a detailed table of contents, and many, many pages of graphics with introductory boilerplate that is adjusted for the content and genre.
While nothing announces that Parker's books are computer-generated, one reader, David Pascoe, seemed close to figuring it out himself, based on his comments to Amazon in 2004.
Reviewing a guide to rosacea, a skin disorder, Pascoe, who is from Perth, Australia, complained: "The book is more of a template for 'generic health researching' than anything specific to rosacea. The information is of such a generic level that a sourcebook on the next medical topic is just a search-and-replace away."
When told via e-mail that his suspicion was correct, Pascoe wrote back, "I guess it makes sense now as to why the book was so awful and frustrating."
Parker was willing to concede much of what Pascoe argued. "If you are good at the Internet, this book is useless," he said, adding that Pascoe simply should not have bought it. But, Parker said, there are people who aren't Internet-savvy who have found these guides useful.
It is the idea of automating difficult or boring work that led Parker to become involved. Comparing himself to a distant disciple of Henry Ford, he said he was "deconstructing the process of getting books into people's hands; every single step we could think of, we automated."
He added, "My goal isn't to have the computer write sentences, but to do the repetitive tasks that are too costly to do otherwise."
In an interview from his home in San Diego and his offices nearby, Parker described his motivation as providing content that the marketplace has otherwise neglected for lack of an audience. That can mean a relatively obscure language is involved, or a relatively obscure disease or a relatively obscure product.
Take, for example, the study of bathmats in India.
"Only one person in the world may be interested in that," he conceded, "probably a strategic planner for a multinational that makes those." But he points out that once he has trained the computer to take data about past sales and make complex calculations to project future sales, each new book costs him about 12 cents in electricity. Since these books are print-on-demand or delivered electronically, he is ahead after the first sale, he said.
His company, Icon Group International, is the long tail of the bell curve come to life--generating significant total sales by adding up tens of thousands of what might be called worst sellers. For example, a search at the Galter Health Sciences Library of the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University found half a dozen Icon books, mainly in the library for patients and their families.
Icon is "a very innovative and interesting example of print-on-demand," said Kurt Beidler, a senior manager at Amazon.com, who runs the publishers' services for BookSurge, Amazon.com's print-on-demand company. "A lot of examples of Parker compares his methods to those of a traditional publisher, but with the computer simply performing some of the scut work. In an explanatory YouTube video, Parker shows a book being created. The computer is given an assignment--project the latent demand for antipsychotic drugs around the world, based on the sales figures in the United States.
"Using a little bit of artificial intelligence, a computer program has been created that mimics the thought process of someone who would be responsible for doing such a study," Parker says. "But rather than taking many months to do the study, the computer accomplishes this in about 13 minutes."

An editor picks the years to be covered, but the computer picks the optimum model for extrapolating sales in various countries, and in alphabetical order produces a chart for each country.
"It will then open a Word document and export the information into Word, just like a real author would out of their minds, so to speak, or spreadsheets," he says.
Artificial-intelligence researchers say computers are far from being what the general public would consider authors.
"There is a continuous spectrum, also known as a slippery slope, between a program that automatically typesets a telephone directory and a program that generates English texts at the level of variety you would expect from a typical human English speaker," said Chung-chieh Shan, an assistant professor in the computer science department of Rutgers.
"The former program is easy to write; the latter program is very difficult--in fact, the holy grail of linguistics. Like Mad Libs, Parker's programs probably lie somewhere between the two ends of this spectrum."
Parker has lately taken to lighter fare intended to educate. He said he had invested "up to seven figures into the animation business" for word-based video games and animated game shows that will teach English to non-English speakers. YouTube has many examples of these games, which have computer- generated scripts.
A low-tech version of those games are the thousands of crossword puzzle books Parker has made in about 20 languages. The clues are in a foreign language, and the answers are in English. The computer designs the puzzles and ensures that the words become harder as one progresses.
As part of his love of words, and dictionaries in all languages, Parker said he has taken to having his computers create acrostic poems--where the first letter of a series of words spells a synonym of those words, often to ironic effect.
Of course, one of the difficulties of generating 100,000 poems is stepping back and assessing their quality.
"Do you think one of them is Shakespeare?" he was asked.
"No," he said. "Only because I haven't done sonnets yet."

Diploma scam exposed
Qualifications of thousands of public sector workers in doubt

Thousands of people working as nurses, physiotherapists, dental technicians and in other vocations may have been employed on the basis of diplomas awarded despite the fact they did not attend any classes, it emerged yesterday.

An investigation by the regional education authorities in Epirus has concluded that two private vocational schools in Arta have, for the last seven years, been selling diplomas to some students.

Sources told Kathimerini that some 2,000 such diplomas were issued for between 5,000 and 15,000 euros each. Inspectors found that, in most cases, students did not attend any classes at all.

The two schools, Evropi and Tomi, are alleged to have awarded a high proportion of students with diplomas carrying high grades, which gave them a head start when applying for jobs in the public sector.

The Federation of Private School Teachers of Greece (OIELE) has claimed that the Evropi school awarded some 1,000 diplomas in three years. During this period, it issued 22 percent of all the top grades given by vocational schools in the whole of Greece.

Education Minister Evripidis Stylianidis said that the government was determined to root out any schools that were cheating by issuing undeserved diplomas.

«We will not tolerate any hint of corruption or any situation that offends our values and principles and damages the impeccable environment of the education system,» he said.

The report compiled by the inspectors, which covered the period 1999-2006, indicated that a number of parties were responsible for the scam, including the owners of the vocational schools, teachers and exam boards.

Students who obtained the fake diplomas now face the possibility of being fired from their jobs.

Sources said that the Education Ministry is likely to issue a decision canceling the diplomas, though a lengthy appeals process is almost certain.

A similar scam was uncovered last year when inspectors found that vocational schools in Larissa, Trikala, Kavala, Arta and Athens had issued some 5,000 diplomas with perfect marks, which their holders then used to get jobs at state hospitals and kindergartens.

Joost is a video-viewing service that runs on Windows and Mac. It was created by the founders of Kazaa and Skype and has a sizable library of free programming that's supported with small bits of advertising before and after video viewings. The service made a splash before opening up to the public by holding an extended private beta that made use of invite tokens in a similar fashion to Google's Gmail.

Now some of the excitement for Joost has faded, but the service is still a fantastic way to get access to free TV and film content. It's also got some built-in social networking features such as live user chat, a built-in blogging tool, and user created channels where Joosters can create their own video programming.

The service is expected to release a browser-based version that will let users watch Joost programming without the software later this year.

Instead of having to go visit houses in person you can do so online, browsing by neighborhood and narrowing down what you're looking for based on a variety of parameters. One of the neatest features, however, is the option to ask a question to the sellers or the real estate agents. You can do so without even having to register. In turn, the service has effectively created a very large directory of real estate agents whose entire properties can be browsed, including houses they've sold in the past.

1 Πότε και πώς ξεκίνησε αυτή η κρίση που πλήττει σήμερα τις περισσότερες αγορές;

-Η κρίση εκδηλώθηκε ανοιχτά στα χρηματιστήρια τον Αύγουστο του 2007, όταν αποκαλύφθηκε ότι μεγάλα χρηματοπιστωτικά ιδρύματα αντιμετώπισαν πρόβλημα ρευστότητας εξαιτίας των στεγαστικών δανείων που είχαν δώσει σε πελάτες που δεν μπορούσαν να τα εξυπηρετήσουν.

Οι τράπεζες αυτές στη συνέχεια εξέδωσαν ομόλογα, που είχαν ως αντίκρισμα αυτά τα «κακά» δάνεια. Οταν άρχισαν να «σκάνε» τα δάνεια (δεν μπορούσαν να εξοφληθούν) άρχισαν να «σκάνε» και τα ομόλογα, τα οποία όμως είχαν στα χέρια τους οι μεγαλύτερες τράπεζες του κόσμου (Deutsche Bank, UBS, Societe Generale). Με το που ξέσπασε η κρίση, άρχισε η υποβάθμιση των τίτλων και στη συνέχεια -καθώς όλοι προσπαθούσαν να ξεφορτωθούν τα χαρτιά αυτά η απαξίωσή τους.

2 Πώς ακριβώς λειτούργησε αυτή η αγορά τιτλοποίησης των δανείων;

-Οι τράπεζες για κάθε δάνειο που δίνουν οφείλουν να έχουν τα απαραίτητα κεφαλαιακά αποθέματα για ασφάλεια αλλά και να ελέγχουν τη φερεγγυότητα του δανειολήπτη προκειμένου να μη χάσουν τα χρήματά τους. Οπως είναι φυσικό, το γεγονός αυτό περιορίζει τα περιθώρια που έχουν να πουλούν δάνεια. Για να παρακάμψουν το πρόβλημα οι τράπεζες στράφηκαν στα νέα χρηματοπιστωτικά εργαλεία της αγοράς παραγώγων. Και άρχισαν να κάνουν το εξής:

Αρχικά ξεκίνησαν να χορηγούν δάνεια ακόμα και σε ανθρώπους που δεν είχαν την ικανότητα να τα ξεπληρώσουν. Αυτό έγινε κυρίως γιατί όλοι λειτουργούσαν με τη λογική ότι οι τιμές των σπιτιών στις ΗΠΑ θα αυξάνουν στο διηνεκές. Ετσι, ακόμα και αν κάποιος δεν μπορούσε κάποια στιγμή να αποπληρώσει το δάνειό του, τότε θα το αναχρηματοδοτούσαν ακόμα και με νέο δάνειο, αφού εν τω μεταξύ η αξία του σπιτιού του θα ανέβαινε και θα επέτρεπε κάτι τέτοιο.

Με τον τρόπο αυτό δημιουργήθηκε μια μεγάλη μάζα «επικίνδυνων» δανείων. Προκειμένου να το ξεφορτωθούν, οι τράπεζες «πακετάρισαν» καλά και κακά δάνεια και τα πούλησαν -με τη μορφή ομολόγου που υπόσχεται υψηλή απόδοση- κυρίως σε συνταξιοδοτικά ταμεία και ασφαλιστικές εταιρείες και τους διψασμένους για υψηλές αποδόσεις επενδυτές. Μάλιστα για να πουληθούν ευκολότερα φρόντισαν να εξασφαλίσουν για τα προϊόντα αυτά υψηλές βαθμολογίες από τους οίκους που κάνουν πιστοληπτικές αξιολογήσεις αλλά και να τα «ασφαλίσουν» σε εταιρείες που κάνουν αυτή τη δουλειά.

Με τις τιτλοποιήσεις των δανείων τους οι τράπεζες δεν ενέγραφαν πλέον τα δάνεια αυτά στους ισολογισμούς τους και δεν δέσμευαν δικά τους χρήματα, οπότε μπορούσαν να προχωρήσουν ανεμπόδιστα σε νέα δάνεια. Παράλληλα, καθώς είχαν «πουλήσει» τον κίνδυνο σε άλλους, δεν τις ενδιέφερε ιδιαίτερα το κατά πόσο ο πελάτης που έπαιρνε το δάνειο θα μπορούσε να το ξεπληρώσει. Ετσι, η τακτική αυτή πήρε εκρηκτικές διαστάσεις.

Αυτοί που αγόρασαν τα προϊόντα αυτά θεωρητικά θα πληρώνονταν από τα χρήματα που θα έδιναν οι άνθρωποι που είχαν πάρει τα δάνεια κάθε μήνα πληρώνοντας τη δόση τους. Μόνο που ξαφνικά χιλιάδες δανειολήπτες σταμάτησαν να πληρώνουν, η πυραμίδα κατέρρευσε.

Απληστία και φόβος

3 Ποιος ευθύνεται για την κρίση που ζούμε στις μέρες μας;

-Ευθύνεται η απληστία και ο φόβος. Η απληστία των εμπορικών και επενδυτικών τραπεζών, που επιδόθηκαν σε αυτό το όργιο πιστωτικής επέκτασης. Επίσης, ο φόβος των κεντρικών τραπεζών (κυρίως αγγλοσαξονικών χωρών, με πρωτεργάτη τη Fed) να μη σκάσουν οι φούσκες που είχαν δημιουργηθεί τα προηγούμενα 10 χρόνια στις αγορές των περιουσιακών στοιχείων (μετοχές, ομόλογα, ακίνητα) και προκληθεί σοβαρή ύφεση στην οικονομία.

Πού εντοπίζεται η ευθύνη των κεντρικών τραπεζών; Στη μείωση των βασικών επιτοκίων σε ιστορικά χαμηλά και πραγματικά αρνητικά επίπεδα (κάτω δηλαδή από τον πληθωρισμό), που είχε στόχο να αποσοβήσει μεν οικονομικές κρίσεις και σοβαρές υφέσεις το 1987 (κραχ), 1990-91 (ύφεση), 1997-98 (ασιατική κρίση), 2001-2002 (χρηματιστηριακή κρίση), αλλά τελικά είχε ως τίμημα τη συνεχή και διογκούμενη αύξηση του δανεισμού, που εκτίναξε στα ύψη τις αγορές περιουσιακών στοιχείων δημιουργώντας φούσκες.

Το φθηνό χρήμα δελέασε τους δανειζόμενους, οι οποίοι, βλέποντας τις τιμές των περιουσιακών στοιχείων να εκτινάσσονται, πίστεψαν πως θα μπορούσαν εύκολα να πλουτίσουν αγοράζοντας ακίνητα, μετοχές κ.λπ. με δανεικά. Η απληστία μόλυνε τους πάντες. Ως αποτέλεσμα της άφθονης ροής χρήματος, η αγοραστική αξία του δολαρίου και όσων νομισμάτων ήταν συνδεδεμένα μαζί του μειώθηκε και ανατιμήθηκαν εμπορεύματα, όπως το πετρέλαιο, που αποτιμώνται σε δολάρια.
Η άνοδος του πετρελαίου και η κάμψη του δολαρίου συμβάλλουν στην αποσταθεροποίηση αγορών και οικονομιών, καθώς πλήττουν την αγοραστική δύναμη των καταναλωτών, αυξάνουν τα κόστη και καθιστούν ακριβότερες τις εξαγωγές χωρών με άλλα νομίσματα. Ομως οι επιπτώσεις τους στην κρίση είναι δευτερογενείς και δεν αποτελούν τη βασική αιτία της. Βασική αιτία είναι η απροθυμία των κεντρικών αρχών να αφήσουν την αγορά να δουλέψει ελεύθερα και η χειραγώγησή της προκειμένου να αποσοβηθούν υφέσεις που θα χαλούσαν το πάρτι των αγορών.

4 Σε τι διαφέρει από άλλες προηγούμενες κρίσεις; Είναι μία κρίση που αφορά τις ΗΠΑ ή όλο τον κόσμο;

-Διαφέρει εξαιτίας της παγκοσμιοποίησης (βλ. δεκαετία '90) και των νέων πιστωτικών εργαλείων που επιστρατεύθηκαν. Η οικονομική ανάπτυξη των τελευταίων ετών ήταν σε μεγάλο βαθμό τεχνητή (λόγω επιτοκίων) και δημιούργησε μια τεράστια πυραμίδα χρεών, που σήμερα, σε συνθήκες πιστωτικής κρίσης, βαραίνουν στα πόδια της όσο ποτέ άλλοτε.

Οι διεθνείς αγορές είναι αλληλεξαρτώμενες όσο ποτέ και η τρέχουσα κρίση βρίσκει πρώτη φορά υπερτιμημένες τις αγορές μετοχών, ομολόγων και ακινήτων ταυτόχρονα, με τις μεγάλες τράπεζες εκτεθειμένες σε όγκους επισφαλούς δανεισμού, που τώρα πρέπει να περάσουν στα βιβλία τους ως ζημιά.

Η κρίση δεν αφορά μόνον τις ΗΠΑ, γιατί, μέσω των αγορών κεφαλαίου και χρήματος, ο φαύλος κύκλος του δανεισμού και των χρεών απλώθηκε σε Ε.Ε. και Ασία.

5 Είναι ικανές οι νομισματικές και κρατικές αρχές των αναπτυγμένων χωρών να αντιμετωπίσουν την κρίση με παρεμβατικές πολιτικές;

-Οι παρεμβατικές πολιτικές που χρησιμοποιούνται από τις κεντρικές τράπεζες είναι η μείωση των επιτοκίων, η προσφορά αυξημένης ρευστότητας στις τράπεζες και οι αγορές τίτλων από προβληματικά χρηματοπιστωτικά ιδρύματα (πρωτοφανής μέθοδος, που παραπέμπει στην κρίση του 1929). Από τις κυβερνήσεις η συνήθης παρέμβαση αφορά αυξημένες ρυθμίσεις στη λειτουργία των αγορών, φοροελαφρύνσεις (ΗΠΑ), εθνικοποιήσεις προβληματικών τραπεζών, πωλήσεις χρυσού κ.λπ.

Η προσφυγή σε μονεταριστικές και κεϊνσιανές πρακτικές είναι μια συνταγή «από τα ίδια», που μπορεί να κατανοηθεί μόνον ως πολιτική διευθέτησης της πορείας της κρίσης και όχι της κρίσης καθεαυτήν. Είναι κατανοητή δηλαδή ως προσπάθεια εξομάλυνσης της πορείας διόρθωσης των αγορών, όχι αποτροπής της. Και αυτό γιατί η ύφεση και η κρίση αποτελούν τον βασικό μηχανισμό της αγοράς για τη διόρθωση των υπερβολών της. Εάν τον εμποδίσεις να λειτουργήσει (όπως έγινε τα προηγούμενα χρόνια) ώστε να εκκαθαριστεί η ήρα από το στάρι, οι υγιείς επιχειρήσεις και επενδύσεις από τις νοσηρές και παθητικές, τότε το μόνο που θα πετύχεις είναι η διεύρυνση των ανισορροπιών και της παθογένειας του συστήματος.

Συνεπώς, το ερώτημα που προβάλλεται σήμερα είναι με ποιον τρόπο σκοπεύουν οι κεντρικές αρχές να αξιοποιήσουν τα όποια προσωρινά ανακουφιστικά αποτελέσματα των παρεμβάσεών τους. Εάν αυτές εξαντληθούν σε πυροσβεστικού τύπου νομισματικές πληθωριστικές ενέσεις, χωρίς τη λήψη διαρθρωτικών μέτρων για τη βελτίωση της παραγωγικότητας, της ανταγωνιστικότητας και του διεθνούς νομισματικού συντονισμού και της εμπορικής συνεργασίας, τότε το φάρμακο θα αποδειχθεί... φαρμάκι.

6 Είναι ο πόλεμος παράγωγο της οικονομικής κρίσης, όπως ορισμένοι διατείνονται;

-Η ιστορία της κρίσης του μεσοπολέμου και των δύο πετρελαϊκών κρίσεων διδάσκει πως κατά κανόνα είναι. Η λογική είναι πως, κάθε φορά που η παγκόσμια οικονομία απορρυθμίζεται και το σύστημα δεν μπορεί να λειτουργήσει ομαλά, απαιτείται σημαντική αναπροσαρμογή των διεθνών παραγωγικών, εμπορικών και νομισματικών μηχανισμών. Αυτή η αναπροσαρμογή εκ των πραγμάτων αμφισβητεί το κυρίαρχο status quo, γιατί κάθε κράτος την αντιλαμβάνεται με βάση το δικό του εθνικό συμφέρον.

Οι πολεμικές δαπάνες

Δεν πρέπει να ξεχνούμε πως οι πολεμικές δαπάνες είναι ένα είδος τεχνητής ζήτησης (βλ. κεϊνσιανή πολιτική) για τη στήριξη της βιομηχανίας μιας χώρας, όπως οι ΗΠΑ ή οι άλλες μεγάλες δυνάμεις, αρκεί τα δημόσια ελλείμματα και η χρηματοδότησή τους να τους το επιτρέπουν.

Από την άλλη, ο πόλεμος αποτέλεσε ιστορικά και μία διέξοδο της κοινωνικής δυσφορίας που προκαλούσε η οικονομική κρίση στρέφοντας την εσωτερική πίεση και διεκδικήσεις προς τις γειτονικές ή αντίπαλες διεκδικήτριες χώρες. Σήμερα, ο κίνδυνος του πολέμου είναι πάντα υπαρκτός, καθώς εκτός από τη διεκδίκηση πρόσβασης στις νέες αναδυόμενες αγορές, υπάρχει η ανάγκη ελέγχου των πηγών ενέργειας, τροφίμων και πρώτων υλών.

7 Πόσο και με ποιον τρόπο αγγίζει η κρίση Ευρώπη και Ελλάδα; Θα έχουμε και εδώ ύφεση;

-Τις αγγίζει μέσω των χρηματοπιστωτικών αγορών (οι ευρωπαϊκές τράπεζες είναι επίσης εκτεθειμένες στην κρίση των στεγαστικών ομολόγων, αφού έχουν αγοράσει τέτοια προϊόντα), της ανατίμησης του ευρώ, που πλήττει την ανταγωνιστικότητα και τις εξαγωγές, καθώς επίσης μέσω της αγοράς ακινήτων που σε αρκετές χώρες (Βρετανία, Γαλλία, Ισπανία, Ιρλανδία, Ολλανδία, ακόμα και Ελλάδα) έχει επίσης λάβει διαστάσεις φούσκας. Οσον αφορά τον ρυθμό ανάπτυξης, αναμένεται να επιβραδυνθεί σημαντικά, χωρίς όμως να πέσουμε σε ύφεση εφέτος.

8 Ποιος ευθύνεται για την αύξηση του πληθωρισμού στην Ελλάδα και γιατί οι τιμές έχουν πάει στα ύψη;

-Η άποψη πως αποκλειστικός υπεύθυνος είναι ο εισαγόμενος πληθωρισμός και ειδικότερα το πετρέλαιο και τα τρόφιμα είναι όπως είπαμε υπερβολική. Ασφαλώς, πετρέλαιο και τρόφιμα συμβάλλουν τα μάλα στην αύξηση του πληθωρισμού, όμως πίσω τους βρίσκεται επίσης ο υπερδανεισμός, που δημιούργησε υπερβάλλουσα καταναλωτική ζήτηση, και φυσικά η κερδοσκοπία, που ευνοείται από το ότι δεν λειτουργούν οι κανόνες του ανταγωνισμού.

Το πρόβλημα στην Ελλάδα αποτυπώνεται και στο μεγάλο έλλειμμα τρεχουσών συναλλαγών της ελληνικής οικονομίας, που είναι τόσο μεγάλο ώστε, αν ήμασταν στην εποχή της δραχμής, θα είχε οδηγήσει σε δραστική υποτίμησή της.

9 Πού θα φθάσει η τιμή του πετρελαίου και του χρυσού;

-Βραχυχρονίως ίσως αυξηθούν ακόμη λίγο. Ομως, επειδή έχουν αυξηθεί πολύ και σε μικρό χρονικό διάστημα, είναι λογικό να υποχωρήσουν τις επόμενες εβδομάδες και μήνες 10-15%. Θα πρόκειται, όμως, πιθανότατα για μια βίαιη όσο και σύντομη διόρθωση, καθώς οι μακροχρόνιοι παράγοντες ανατίμησής τους παραμένουν ακέραιοι και σχετίζονται τόσο με την περιορισμένη προσφορά τους (εξάντληση κοιτασμάτων, έλλειψη σχετικών επενδύσεων) όσο και με την αυξημένη επενδυτική ζήτηση λόγω του νομισματικού πληθωρισμού και της στροφής στις εμπράγματες αξίες για λόγους επενδυτικού καταφυγίου.

10 Πόσο χαμηλά μπορεί να πέσουν τα χρηματιστήρια;

-Αν κρίνουμε από τη σοβαρότητα της κρίσης και συγκρίνουμε με την έκταση της χρηματιστηριακής κάμψης την περίοδο 2001-2002, τότε μπορούμε να συμπεράνουμε πως ο δρόμος της διόρθωσης που μένει να διανυθεί είναι ακόμη μακρύς και οπωσδήποτε πάνω από το 50%. Σ' αυτό συνηγορεί το γεγονός ότι ακόμη δεν έχει προκληθεί ύφεση στην παγκόσμια οικονομία. Πάντως, το βέβαιο είναι ότι έχουμε για καλά εισέλθει σε μια μακροχρόνια πτωτική αγορά (αγορά αρκούδας) και πως τα ενδιάμεσα ανοδικά ράλι τιμών που θα δούμε θέλουν προσοχή.

Οι επενδύσεις

11 Πού μπορεί να επενδύσει κανείς σε εποχή ύφεσης;

-Οι εμπράγματες αξίες ήδη έχουν προσελκύσει το ενδιαφέρον των επενδυτών, είτε μιλάμε για ενέργεια και πολύτιμα μέταλλα είτε για τρόφιμα και πρώτες ύλες. Ομως, επειδή οι αγορές αυτές είναι συγκριτικά μικρές, χρειάζονται προσοχή στις απότομες διακυμάνσεις τους. Οι αγορές αυτές ιστορικά ανεβαίνουν όταν εμφανίζεται στασιμοπληθωρισμός (χαμηλή ανάπτυξη και αύξηση πληθωρισμού) και αβεβαιότητα στην οικονομία.

Αντίστροφη

Η σχέση τους με τις αγορές μετοχών-ομολόγων είναι μακροχρονίως αντίστροφη. Σταθερά αυξανόμενη ζήτηση (βλ. δημογραφική έκρηξη και αστικοποίηση σε αναπτυσσόμενες χώρες) και πεπερασμένη προσφορά συνηγορούν υπέρ της διατήρησης της ανοδικής τους τροχιάς.

12 Ποιες είναι οι βασικές προβλέψεις για την ελληνική οικονομία;

-Ρυθμός ανάπτυξης 2,5% φέτος, αντί του επισήμως διακηρυσσόμενου 3,7%, και πληθωρισμός 4,5% είναι ίσως οι βασικότερες αλλαγές που θα δούμε. Εννοείται πως οι υποθέσεις εργασίας του κρατικού προϋπολογισμού για επιτόκια, πετρέλαιο και ισοτιμία ευρώ-δολαρίου έχουν ανατραπεί άρδην και μαζί τους η εκτέλεση του προϋπολογισμού. Συνεπώς, ας ετοιμαστούμε για φορολογικές εκπλήξεις.

Σίγουρη πρέπει να θεωρείται η κάμψη της τουριστικής αγοράς και της κτηματαγοράς, με την οικοδομή να ηγείται. Ο κρατικός δανεισμός θα καταστεί ακριβότερος, καθώς το spread έχει ήδη αυξηθεί εις βάρος μας έναντι των γερμανικών ομολόγων (εξ ου και η βιασύνη του ελληνικού Δημοσίου να προχωρήσει άμεσα σε νέες ομολογιακές εκδόσεις). Επίσης, μεγάλο ερωτηματικό είναι οι αρνητικές επιπτώσεις στις ελληνικές τράπεζες από τη διάχυση της κρίσης στα Βαλκάνια, λόγω του υψηλού εξωτερικού ελλείμματος και χρέους, καθώς και της πολιτικής τους αστάθειας.

13 Ποιες είναι οι ευθύνες της ελληνικής κυβέρνησης για την αντιμετώπιση της κρίσης;

-Οι ευθύνες της έγκεινται στη μη κατάλληλη αξιοποίηση της προηγούμενης περιόδου ευμάρειας για τις απαραίτητες μεταρρυθμίσεις στην οικονομία (υγεία, παιδεία, δημόσια διοίκηση, ασφαλιστικό κ.λπ.), στην ελλιπή αξιοποίηση των κοινοτικών πόρων, στην απουσία πολιτικής εντατικής υποκατάστασης του πετρελαίου με άλλες ανανεώσιμες μορφές ενέργειας (το φυσικό αέριο είναι μεν φθηνότερο αλλά ακολουθεί το πετρέλαιο στις ανατιμήσεις και παραμένει συγκριτικά ρυπογόνο), στην αναποτελεσματική πάταξη της κερδοσκοπίας για την καταπολέμηση της ακρίβειας και στο γενικότερο κλίμα επανάπαυσης που επέτρεψε να δημιουργηθεί στο όνομα των υψηλών ρυθμών ανάπτυξης. Μια ανάπτυξη που όμως ήταν μονομερής, αφού ωφελήθηκαν κυρίως οι τράπεζες και οι κατασκευαστικές εταιρείες και δεν συνοδεύθηκε από κέρδη ανταγωνιστικότητας. Ετσι, σήμερα, η ελληνική οικονομία καλείται να αντιμετωπίσει την κρίση με δίδυμα ελλείμματα, υψηλά χρέη (δημόσια και ιδιωτικά) και πληθωρισμό και φθίνουσα ανταγωνιστικότητα. Όχι, ότι καλύτερο, εννοείται, ιδίως όταν απουσιάζουν όροι εμπιστοσύνης και συνθήκες πολιτικής σταθερότητας.

14 Τι πρέπει να κάνουν οι Ελληνες για να προστατευθούν;

-Οι Ελληνες πρέπει να διασφαλίσουν τις αποταμιεύσεις τους, διακρατώντας σημαντικά επίπεδα ρευστότητας, και φυσικά να εργαστούν σκληρά προκειμένου να προασπίσουν την απασχόλησή τους. Οι όροι ζωής αλλάζουν για όλους και όσο ταχύτερα προσαρμοστούμε στη νέα πραγματικότητα τόσο μικρότερη ζημιά θα υποστούμε.

If NATO cannot pressure Greece to lift its childish blockade of Macedonia's membership bid, the EU should.

Amid the fanfare of an agreement over US missile defense plans and the rejected membership aspirations of Georgia and Ukraine, news on NATO's Bucharest summit largely overlooked the fate of Macedonia – or the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), as the country has been ingloriously called since it joined the United Nations in 1993.

While Albania and Croatia both received invitations to join the alliance, Macedonia was left waiting outside after Greece, to the chagrin of NATO's leadership, blocked Skopje's bid. There were no claims from Athens of a lack of military readiness on the part of the Macedonians, only a refusal to budge in the long-running debate with the country over its constitutional name. Since 1991, after Macedonia gained independence from the former Yugoslavia, Greece has protested again the use of “Macedonia” and “Republic of Macedonia” because it sees the name as implying a territorial claim on Greece's northern Macedonia province.

A NOT SO GREAT DISPUTE

The claim that Macedonia has designs on northern Greece appears patently absurd. Even the most fervent nationalist would be hard-pressed to explain how a poor country of 2 million could ever possibly hope to conquer a neighbor so much larger, richer, and more powerful. And precisely NATO membership serves to contain territorial ambitions and historic animosities.

The Greeks don't need to look far for an example: NATO's wise decision of 1952 to accept both Turkey and Greece has surely been a key factor in preventing disputes over Cyprus, as well as Aegean airspace and sovereignty, from escalating into war. More recently, the entry of Hungary, along with the other Central European states, helped assuage regional fears over Hungarian irredentism. If anything, Greeks would have less to fear if Macedonia joined the alliance.

Clearly, there is more at stake here, and it would be difficult not to assume that the wildly unpopular government of Greek Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis has continued to use the name dispute to fuel its own flagging support and preserve its narrow parliamentary majority. A recent poll showed that 84 percent of Greeks approved of Greece vetoing Macedonia's NATO bid if no compromise could be reached in time. The opposition, seeing the opinion polls, has also shamelessly sided with the government.

Yet, as TOL has reported, Greeks and Macedonians that deal with each other on a daily basis have no such problems getting along and hardly care about the name issue. They just want to get on with business.

The Macedonians haven't really helped matters either. The decision in December 2006 to rename the airport in Skopje after Alexander the Great, whom the Greeks consider a central part of their heritage, was predictably viewed as a provocation. Was it really that difficult to pick another name, especially when the Greeks already have Megas Alexandros International Airport at Kavala in the neighboring Greek region of Macedonia? And this past week, in a case of extremely poor timing, billboards appeared around Skopje showing the Greek, blue-and-white-striped flag with a swastika instead of the classic cross. While the authorities were not responsible – the posters advertised a private art show – their reaction was slow, and only in response to an official diplomatic complaint.

LET COOLER HEADS PREVAIL

The repercussions of a delayed NATO bid are very real. For many in Macedonia, the name issue festers, heightening their feelings of insecurity and defensiveness and feeding their nationalistic inclinations. Before the Bucharest summit, approximately 90 percent of the population supported membership. The decision to send soldiers to Iraq and Afghanistan was largely supported as a fair price to pay for possible acceptance into the alliance. And, importantly, the common goal of membership served to unite the country's two main ethnic groups, the Slavic Macedonians and Albanians, whose skirmishes in 2001 nearly erupted into a fully-fledged war.

Now all bets are off and the future unclear. The disappointment in Skopje gave rise to countless interpretations over what had transpired in Bucharest and what should be done. Some ethnic Macedonians – already much more inclined than Albanians to say the name issue is more crucial than NATO membership – have called for an end to any negotiations over the name and even suspending the agreement that allowed the country to enter the United Nations under the FYROM designation.

Others have talked of bringing the soldiers back, cutting off all ties with Greece, and forgetting altogether about membership in the EU and NATO. They see Kosovo's unilateral declaration of independence and subsequent recognition by much of the international community and wonder why they shouldn't try to gain recognition of the country by its constitutional name. Not surprisingly, support for NATO has sharply fallen.

Hopefully (and probably), cooler heads will prevail and the sting of rejection will wear off in a matter of weeks, if not days. NATO membership should remain front and center in Macedonia's ambitions – even if it won't obviously be a quick fix for all of the country's ills, especially its 35 percent unemployment rate. But, as proponents of enlargement tirelessly argued before several Central European states were accepted in 1999, membership does convey a very real sense of reliability to the outside world, including potential investors. It is also, at least psychologically, a big stepping stone on the way to membership in the EU, both for the country itself (progress does have its rewards) and EU member states (if they joined one elite club, they might be ready soon for ours).

BALL NOW IN BRUSSELS' COURT

At every other instance of nationalism in the Balkans, in Central Europe, and elsewhere, there is incessant hand-wringing in Brussels, followed by a flurry of communiqués condemning the alleged perpetrators, calling for calm, and threatening this or that state that its actions could impede possible membership. Greece, on the other hand, has gotten away with blocking a country's movement toward stability and prosperity over nothing more than a name that harms its pride over its glorious history and supposedly suggests territorial ambitions.

Are there really no buttons to push to force the Greeks to concede? While one may not agree with the view of some NATO states to postpone membership for Georgia and Ukraine so as not to antagonize Russia, it is surely an opinion to be taken seriously. But Greece? We are hardly talking here about a European powerhouse that drives the continent, politically or economically – a country to fear one way or another.

We have now reached a point where the EU, supposedly all about quenching such disputes on its territory, should consider isolating Greece. Only eight years ago, after Jörg Haider's far-right Freedom Party joined a coalition government in Austria, EU member states stopped cooperating with Vienna. While the effectiveness of those “political sanctions” has been debated, something of the sort should at least be considered for an EU member state clearly engaging in a nationalistic, populist game with public opinion – a member state twice condemned by the European Court of Human Rights for its attempts to ban an association and a political party representing the Macedonian minority.

A precedent for a hard-line stance with Greece does exist. Back in 1994, Greece imposed a trade embargo on Macedonia over the name issue, cutting off the country from the port of Thessaloniki. Angered about the impact on Macedonia, already suffering because of an existing UN embargo on Yugoslavia to the north, the European Commission took Greece to the EU's European Court of Justice, doubly embarrassing because Greece headed the EU presidency at the time.

Similar pressure today could, in the end, also serve as a face-saving measure for the Greek government. To be fair to today's politicians, their intransigence is a product of the poor diplomacy of their predecessors and their tendency to play the nationalist card. He could say he had no other choice but to compromise, or face isolation. After 17 years, it's time for a change in tactics.

The ancient capital of Alexander the great is in the Greek central province of Macedonia. Its not in Skopje. Vergina where that symbol was found and Pella the ancient capital of Philip are in Greek territory

This author takes as a fact that the people in FUROM are called Macedonians.. something that is under dispute..
Besides the Name there is also the Flag they are using...
Slavic and Macedonians 2 terms that are in conflict.. Either Slav or Macedonian.. cant be both..

THE children of the Greeks who emigrated to the Kavala district of Greece in an exchange scheme after the Independence War are due to arrive to Didim to see where their ancestors lived and visit their homes.

Mayor Mümin Kamacı said that Kavala and Didim would become sister cities. He said: “Improving such relations will earn Didim tourism and our people.”

A special programme has been prepared for the Greeks.

About 70 Greeks will arrive in Didim on Wednesday April 2 at 8pm.

On Thursday April 3, the Greeks will visit the houses of their ancestors and at 7.30pm, the documentary “Asia Minor” about the period of exchange will be shown at the wedding hall.

On Friday April 4, there will be a tour to Ephesus, Virgin Mary's House, Priene and Miletos.

On the same day the protocol for being a sister city will be signed.

There will be a farewell dinner held at Kamacı 3 Restaurant, where songs in Greek and Turkish will be sung.

Your legal concepts of property, expression, identity, movement, and context do not apply to us. They are based on matter, There is no matter here.

Our identities have no bodies, so, unlike you, we cannot obtain order by physical coercion. We believe that from ethics, enlightened self-interest, and the commonweal, our governance will emerge . Our identities may be distributed across many of your jurisdictions. The only law that all our constituent cultures would generally recognize is the Golden Rule. In the United States, you have today created a law, the Telecommunications Reform Act, which repudiates your own Constitution and insults the dreams of Jefferson, Washington, Mill, Madison, DeToqueville, and Brandeis. These dreams must now be born anew in us.

You are terrified of your own children, since they are natives in a world where you will always be immigrants. Because you fear them, you entrust your bureaucracies with the parental responsibilities you are too cowardly to confront yourselves. In our world, all the sentiments and expressions of humanity, from the debasing to the angelic, are parts of a seamless whole, the global conversation of bits. We cannot separate the air that chokes from the air upon which wings beat.

In China, Germany, France, Russia, Singapore, Italy and the United States, you are trying to ward off the virus of liberty by erecting guard posts at the frontiers of Cyberspace. These may keep out the contagion for a small time, but they will not work in a world that will soon be blanketed in bit-bearing media.

Your increasingly obsolete information industries would perpetuate themselves by proposing laws, in America and elsewhere, that claim to own speech itself throughout the world. These laws would declare ideas to be another industrial product, no more noble than pig iron. In our world, whatever the human mind may create can be reproduced and distributed infinitely at no cost. The global conveyance of thought no longer requires your factories to accomplish.

These increasingly hostile and colonial measures place us in the same position as those previous lovers of freedom and self-determination who had to reject the authorities of distant, uninformed powers. We must declare our virtual selves immune to your sovereignty, even as we continue to consent to your rule over our bodies. We will spread ourselves across the Planet so that no one can arrest our thoughts.

We will create a civilization of the Mind in Cyberspace. May it be more humane and fair than the world your governments have made before.

Regal... continues.. after the scandals

Most people would shudder at the prospect of being sent to Siberia. Not David Greer. He spent four years on the bleak Russian plains as director of a vast oil and gas project for Shell and, although life was tough, it was not all about hardship.

“Sometimes you'd get up in the morning and a metre of snow would have fallen – you couldn't even open the door,” he says. But there was snow-mobiling and in summer, shooting, riding motorcycles, even jetskiing. “I like to work hard and play hard . . . and drive anything fast,” grins Mr Greer, a rumbustious Glaswegian.

Perhaps it is this unconventional approach that persuaded him last November to take up the job of chief executive at Regal Petroleum, a company that has received much publicity over the years – not always for the right reasons.

Formed in 1996 by Frank Timis, a colourful Romanian tycoon, and listed in 2002, Regal's most promising drilling prospects are now in Ukraine, although the company is exploring for oil in Mr Timis's home country and in Egypt.

Regal is best known for a 2005 share scandal that outraged the City after claims that Mr Timis, then the company's chairman, had overhyped the prospects of an oilfield at Kavala in Greece. In the run-up to the debacle, Regal's shares had soared to highs of 509p after investors were led to believe that the field contained up to one billion barrels of oil, making it one of the biggest finds in Europe. At the time, the pressure inside the well was said to be so high that the drilling platform above it was at risk of being destroyed.

The company had raised £40 million of new money from investors in the weeks leading up to the announcement but in fact the well was virtually dry. That prompted the Financial Services Authority and the Stock Exchange to begin separate investigations as the shares plunged to less than 50p.

Mr Timis, who in the 1990s was convicted on two charges of heroin possession, was forced to resign later. He remains on the sidelines as Regal's biggest single shareholder with a 20 per cent stake.

Although the company remains the subject of a disciplinary hearing by the Alternative Investment Market, Mr Greer says that he prefers to focus on the future and bats off questions about the episode. “It's wrong to continue to tarnish the company for something that happened in 2005,” he says. “Too many people are stuck in the past.”

He points out that there are no senior executives left at the company from that time and that the Greek field has since been sold, along with other assets in Liberia. The ongoing disciplinary hearing has no bearing on the running of the business today, Mr Greer insists.

Instead, he prefers to talk about Regal's three fields in Ukraine, which independent consultants believe contain nearly 170 million barrels of proven and probable reserves. If handled correctly, he believes that they have the potential to transform the company and deliver a substantial boost to its £248 million valuation.

“The best legacy for me would be to transform this ragdoll of the London City press into a respectable, mid-tier oil and gas company on the main market,” he says.

With this in mind, Mr Greer – who says that he left Shell last June because he was turning 50 and, fed up with constant travelling, wanted to spend more time with his family – has been busy assembling a strategy to accelerate Regal's drilling programme. Last month, he completed a $165 million (£82.4 million) fundraising round that was oversubscribed by $35 million – not bad going for a roadshow undertaken in the depths of the credit crunch. A marked increase in gas output is expected this summer, with full-scale production due to begin next year.

“There is no excuse for us not going forward and making a success of it,” Mr Greer says. “Regal has every right to be differentiated for all the right – not the wrong – reasons.”

Nevertheless, he finds it harder to fend off questions about a more recent spate of headlines – this time regarding the circumstances of his appointment.

Regal's prospect in Ukraine was so enticing that last autumn, just before Mr Greer joined the company, it had attracted the interest of his old employer, Shell.

Neil Ritson, Mr Greer's predecessor as chief executive, who joined Regal in the aftermath of the 2005 shares scandal, had signed the company up to a $400 million joint venture with Shell to co-develop the fields.

When the deal was announced to the market on November 21, it was welcomed by many as a sign that Regal was regaining credibility. Nevertheless, it proved to be an unpopular decision with key shareholders, including Mr Timis, who wanted Regal to go it alone in Ukraine. They believed that Shell was picking up quality assets on the cheap.

In typical Regal style, a remarkable turn of events ensued. The following day, November 22, Mr Ritson was ousted in a shareholder coup and replaced by Mr Greer. On November 23, Shell pulled out of the partnership.

Mr Greer bristles at the mention of all this. At the time, he says, he was working as a consultant and had been granted access to data regarding Regal's fields in Ukraine.

“Our view was that you could deliver as much value by delivering it yourself than by selling it to Shell or anyone else. We obtained the support of 70 per cent of shareholders – including Timis. Then on November 22 we were approached and asked if we could take on the role of chairman and CEO. We came over the same day.”

Despite his apparent admission that Mr Timis did, indeed, play a role in the process, he fiercely denies the notion that the former chairman retains any undue influence over the company: “Frank Timis is not a director. He has no influence over the company. It's a nonissue and a figment of the imagination of a bitter and twisted few.”

Some may find this hard to believe, but Mr Greer is insistent. He adds that he has learnt much since his appointment. A 28-year career at Shell took him all over the world, including stints as an engineer in the deserts of Oman, offshore Norway, Argentina, northern Canada and the Philippines. But he never felt at home in the marbled halls of the City.

“I came from quite a poor background,” he reflects, “but over the past three months I have learnt a hell of a lot. There is a lot of mystique about the City.” But Mr Greer, every inch the grizzled oilman, is not the sort to be put off by this lack of experience. “I have always relished a challenge,” he says.

Domaine Biblia Chora

With professionalism and a discriminating taste for detail

The ownership of Biblia Chora – which, for now, is the only Greek wine imported into Bulgaria – is divided between two Greek oenologists – Vassilis Tsaktsaralis and Vangelis Gerovassiliou – who make all the cellar's wines.

Tsaktsaralis' reputation as a talented wine-maker precedes him, and with due reason. His wines are modern in their production style, while retaining a classic approach and a flair for experimenting. Gerovassiliou has previously established his name with his own winery Domaine Gerovassiliou.

Biblia Chora (also spelt Vivlia Hora) is beautiful and impressive – it could easily be called a temple of wine. The edifice carries the entire charm of classic Europe, while at the same time constructed to be maximally becoming for a winery.

While proving to be ideally situated for both red and white varietals, the two owners have a penchant for the native white varietal assyrtiko. It is on this grape that their best wines are based, often in a blend with sauvignon blanc, chardonnay or semillon.

Assyrtiko, which is typical of northern Greece, is associated with aromas of lemon and fresh grass – by which it recalls sauvignon blanc. The two varietals complement each other well, a natural marriage of sorts.

On principle, the region around Kavala is where the red ksinomavro is grown, but the two oenologists prefer more southern, spicy complex and fresh agiorgitiko. For fresh and fruity wines is the style after which they strive.

We tasted the 100 per cent syrah rose. It was a resonant, clean, lively wine with interesting fruit notes and charming violet.

The conception of the winery is like this: for world-known grape sorts present in Greek-Macedonian land to be combined with the best characteristics of local varietals. Such is why wines like Biblia Chora's Ovilos label are designated as being “from the region of Pangeon”. For example, the white Ovilos is a blend of 50 per cent sauvignon blanc and 50 per cent assyrtiko; the red that we tasted was 100 per cent cabernet sauvignon.

Regional white wine from Pangeon 2005. Straw-gold colour and intense nose in which dominates the fresh aromas of basil, mint, grapefruit and spices. Harmonious, with good freshness and structure. In the in-mouth aroma again is perceived mint, basil, tar and grapefruit. Long herby finish. (rating 85/100, 23 leva)

Regional white wine from Pangeon; sauvignon blanc and assyrtiko 2005. Straw-gold with glossiness. Intensive aroma in the nose among which dominate grass, white peach, lime and green pepper. Fresh, light and harmonious, with a medium body, while in the in-mouth aroma appears peach, grassiness and lime. Long, fruity and fresh finish. (rating 85/100)

Carrefour in Sofia -- sold to Greek fund for 200 million euro

French retail giant Carrefour sold its development, which is currently being constructed on Sofia's Tsarigradsko Chausse Blvd, to Greek fund Assos Capital, for roughly 200 million euro, Alexandros Papageorgiou, the new fund's managing director, said in a statement, as quoted by Kapital weekly.

This is the biggest transaction in Bulgaria's real estate sector since the start of the year and second-biggest re-sale in the segment, topped only by Landmark's sale for 210 million euro, but ahead of the 180-million deal for Business Park Sofia.

Carrefour's transaction includes the land and the buyer's commitment to invest in the completion of the adjoining commercial centre, which now at its initial building phase.

The world's second-largest retail chain will retain the ownership of the 14 600 sq m hypermarket, located in the mall. Colliers, the exclusive agent of the retail compound, has already secured 70 per cent occupancy. A major stake in renting out the establishment falls to Carrefour's partner - Greek company Marinopoulos, which holds the rights to Marks&Spencer and Starbucks for Bulgaria.

The mall, with a total built-up area of 66 000 sq m, will have 200 shops, restaurants, a multiplex cinema and a bowling centre. Several office buildings, which are not a part of the deal with the Greek fund, will also be part of the compound. They have not started renting out though.

The investment in the retail and office complexes totals 200 million euro, according to the French executive's initial estimates, announced last autumn.

This year, Bourgas will see the opening of the first Carrefour hypermarket in Bulgaria, which will be smaller in size than the Sofia one. The French retailer plans to open about 20 hypermarkets in Bulgaria.

Assos Capital is a private Greek property fund, focused on investment in South Eastern Europe and Ukraine. It was set up at the turn of 2007 with a paid-in capital of about 20 million euro, which subsequently hiked to 40 million euro, Greek media reported.

The fund concluded its first transaction in Bulgaria in February last year. It was the acquisition of an office building in downtown Sofia for 4.5 million euro. The Greek company is also reported to own a business building in Sofia' Mladost neighbourhood, as well. The fund's resources were raised through institutional investors and individuals, Papageorgiou said. Members of the Greek shipping family Restis, which also has interests in the banking, real estate and media business, are among Assos Capital's key shareholders.

Controversial Bulgarian deputy foreign minister resigns

Deputy foreign minister Feim Chaoushev resigned on March 24, ten days after a weekly magazine claimed he had identity documents under two different names.

In a media statement, Chaoushev said he resigned over the "massive slander campaign" against him, which targeted him both as a person and as a professional.

Tema magazine accused Chaoushev, appointed from the quota of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), of using two first names, one to do business and one for his political activity.

Under the Bulgarian name of Petar Chaoushev, the one written in his Bulgarian personal identification documents, he is part of the management of the companies Dyuni, Aspo Star, IVG Immobilien Verwaltungs-Gesellschaft and Wilfried Euler – Sofia.

However, the deputy minister did not include his participation in those companies in his assets declaration, since he submitted it under the name of Feim Chaoushev, the name by which he is known to the public and under which his diplomatic passport has been issued.

Chaoushev said he received no remuneration from being on the board of directors of those companies, nor was there any conflict of interest with his position as deputy minister because none of them were involved in foreign policy-making.

MRF hailed his decision to step down, with party leader Ahmed Dogan promising earlier that the issue would be resolved on March 24. Party sources, quoted by Dnevnik daily, claimed Chaoushev would be sacked if he didn't resign.

Bulgaria recognises Kosovo

On March 20 2008, a month and three days after Kosovo declared independence from Serbia, the Bulgarian Government took a decision to recognise the former Yugoslav province as an independent state.

Bulgaria become the third neighbouring country to recognise Kosovo. The first two were Croatia and Hungary. On March 19 the governments of Bulgaria, Croatia and Hungary issued a joint declaration stating their readiness to recognise Kosovo's self-proclaimed independence. The same day Croatia and Hungary followed the example of 29 countries and recognised Kosovo while the Bulgarian Government waited for a day to announce its decision.

The decision to recognise Kosovo draws on “thorough consideration and on the conclusions adopted by the General Affairs and External Relations Council of the European Union on 12 February 2007 and 18 February 2008, as well as by the European Council on 14 December 2007”, the joint declaration reads.

Kosovo is a “case arising from the unique circumstances of the disintegration of former Yugoslavia as well as the continued period of international administration”, the declaration read.

Despite this, all three countries paid due tribute to the European future of Serbia and favour the signing of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement between Serbia and the European Union.

Serbian foreign minister Vuk Jeremic said, as quoted by Agence France Presse (AFP), that countries that have recognised Kosovo “cannot rely on good relations with Serbia”.

Hours before the release of the joint statement, Bulgaria's Foreign Minister Lyubomir Kyuchoukov met Serbian ambassador to Bulgaria Danilo Vucetic to inform him about the decision. Emerging from the meeting, he said there was no reason to expect that Serbia would treat Bulgaria any differently from other states that had recognised Kosovo's independence. Over the past month, Serbia has recalled its ambassadors, for an indefinite period, from all the countries that have recognised Kosovo.

On March 20, Serbia remained true to its approach and recalled its ambassador in Sofia, as well as those in Budapest and Zagreb, for an indefinite period of time. Vucetic also handed over a protest diplomatic note against Bulgaria's official recognition of Kosovo independence.
Bulgarian President Georgi Purvanov characterised the decision as “reasonable” yet declined to comment further until the document had been approved by the Cabinet. He said, though, that the situation in Kosovo continued to be “alarming” and this had to be taken into account.

The political outcry in Bulgaria was immediate and, inevitably, the ruling coalition and the opposition took different positions. While the ruling coalition maintained the decision was timely, carefully considered and responsible, the opposition was united behind the feeling that the decision was late.
“Because of indecision, Bulgaria lost its chance to join the governing commission of states, which are to oversee and insist on the implementation of the Ahtisaari plan and therefore to stand for its economic and political interests,” Konstantin Dimitrov, a member of Democrats for Strong Bulgaria, said, as quoted by Dnevnik daily.

Sofia mayor and leader of the Citizens for European Development in Bulgaria Boiko Borissov wondered why the Government needed so long to reach its decision “given that from day one everyone knew Bulgaria would recognise Kosovo”.

Hours after the declaration was released, Croatia's deputy prime minister Slobodan Uzelac, a representative of the Serbian minority in the Croatian government, filed his resignation in protest against the plans of the Croatian government, Croatian prime minister Ivo Sanader said, as quoted by AFP.

Russia's deputy foreign minister Alexander Yakovenko said that “Russia's position on Serbia remained unchanged, the declaration of Kosovo's independence violated international law”. The head of the defence and security committee in the upper chamber of the Russian parliament Viktor Ozerov would not rule out the prospect of acceding Serbia to the Commonwealth of Independent States and in the Collective Security Treaty Organisation, Russian newspaper Izvestia reported.

HOW GREEN COULD MAKE EUROPE A TECH POWER

There have been a number of major disappointments in the technology world: OS/2, the Newton, PC-like Internet appliances.

And to that list you have to add Europe. The continent--with its lengthy scientific heritage and world-class universities--has lived below expectations when it comes to electronics and IT technology. And I don't even have torecycle Minitel jokes or jokes about Germany university students spending 13 years on an undergraduate degree to make my point.

Nokia grew out of Europe, but it's the only truly dominant European company out there. Beyond that there aren't many household names. SAP? It plays second fiddle to Oracle. Philips has reaped millions in profit from CD and DVD patents, but it's the lone European in a raft of Asian competitors (Samsung, Sony, LG, Panasonic, and even Haier) in TVs. Ireland is Europe's primary tech center, but to date it has largely functioned as a continental outpost for Team America.

The list gets thin after that: Skype--the consensus is that maybe eBay paid too much for the VoIP service; and STMicroelectronics--not a lot of people bring up that company in conversation.

More venture capital funds get invested in Israel these days ($1.76 billion in 2007) than any single European nation, and Israel has a population that's about 1/10th the size of Britain or Germany.

And the situation can't entirely be chalked up to high labor costs. Many Eastern European nations became independent in 1989 and 1990. That's before India began to heavily concentrate on tech. Let's face it--if Europeans didn't buy PCs and cell phones, no one would think about them in the tech sector.

But in green tech the picture could entirely change, and here's why:

1. Government activism
Europe has led the world in implementing carbon trading, renewable-energy subsidies, and the other necessary legislation for getting the green industry moving. Subsidies explain why Germany has been the largest solar market for the past several years. Those in the renewable business hope subsidies can be faded out, but they are necessary now for getting the business started.

The regulations haven't been perfect--many believe that the emissions ceilings were set too high and a reversal on biodiesel taxes has hurt that industry--but you will see more experimentation here than in other regions, and see it here first.

2. Expertise
France embraced nuclear technology decades ago and is now probably the world's leader. Expect to see French companies participating more in building plants and developing equipment and disposal techniques as Asia adopts nuclear. Nuclear power is not everyone's definition of clean energy, but it emits far less carbon than coal and is gaining momentum internationally.

Daimler and Volkswagen, meanwhile, continue to fine-tune diesel cars to make them cleaner. Diesels have begun to arrive in the United States again. The mileage of many diesels can rival hybrids. Several start-ups have devised technology that could allow diesels to get 100 miles a gallon in a few years.

3. Interest among the population
Environmental awareness is far higher in Europe than in the states. Recycling in Germany requires a working knowledge of which piece of trash goes in which bin. PC and electronics recycling is more ingrained (although still not perfect). Enthusiasm among the population is a tough factor to quantify, but anecdotal evidence indicates that Europeans are more willing to go green despite some of the inconveniences.

4. Changing policies at universities
This is a huge factor. Technology transferred from universities is not nearly as strongly ingrained in European universities as elsewhere. A professor at the Technion in Israel said that the university for years was too wedded to the European idea of pursuing research for research's sake. Commercialism was disdained. Intel built a lab at Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain, several years ago, CTO Justin Rattner once told me, because the company discovered that the university had a top-notch processor design group. However, the students didn't really know where to go to get a job.

This is changing. Ireland, for instance, has funded a series of incubation centers at its leading universities and has prompted labs at different schools to cooperate.

"We make sure they (researchers) know that funding could be cut if there is no economic benefit," Pat Frain, who runs NovaUCD, the incubator at University College Dublin, said in a recent interview.

5. It's a way to fuel comic anti-Americanism
Part of the fun in living in Europe is looking down at Americans. Every time I go there I wear red, white, and blue Bermuda shorts and a T-shirt that reads "These Colors Don't Run" just so everyone has something to talk about. And yes, I'm well aware that it takes a wheelbarrow full of dollar bills to buy some breath mints in London. And yes, we have a president who bears a striking resemblance to a confused chimp. But guess what? We have an election coming. No matter who wins, one of those gags goes off the table.

By leading in green technology, Europeans will be able to remain haughty for some time.

Τρεις διαδηλωτές, μέλη της οργάνωσης Δημοσιογράφοι Χωρίς Σύνορα, προσπάθησαν να διακόψουν την ομιλία του προέδρου της Οργανωτικής Επιτροπής «Πεκίνο 2008» Λιου Τσι με συνθήματα υπέρ του Θιβέτ, ενώ στα χέρια τους κρατούσαν μία μαύρη σημαία με τους πέντε Ολυμπιακούς κύκλους να εμφανίζονται σαν χειροπέδες.

Ο πρόεδρος της Οργανωτικής Επιτροπής συνέχισε την ομιλία του, υψώνοντας μάλιστα τον τόνο της φωνής του, ενώ οι αστυνομικοί απομάκρυναν τους διαδηλωτές πριν πάρει έκταση το επεισόδιο. Μεταξύ των τριών μελών της οργάνωσης ήταν και ο γενικός γραμματέας της Ρομπέρ Μενάρ, ο οποίος την Κυριακή τιμήθηκε από τον Γάλλο πρόεδρο Νικολά Σαρκοζί με το παράσημο του Ιππότη της Λεγεώνας της Τιμής.

Το επεισόδιο καταδίκασε ο αναπληρωτής κυβερνητικός εκπρόσωπος Ευ.Αντώναρος: «Η κυβέρνηση καταδικάζει κάθε απόπειρα παρέμβασης στην καθιερωμένη τελετή αφής της φλόγας, πολύ περισσότερο όταν εμπεριέχει πράξεις που δεν έχουν καμία σχέση με το Ολυμπιακό Πνεύμα».

«Αν η Ολυμπιακή φλόγα είναι ιερή, τα ανθρώπινα δικαιώματα είναι ακόμη περισσότερο. Δεν θα μπορούσαμε να αφήσουμε την κινεζική κυβέρνηση να αποκτήσει την Ολυμπιακή φλόγα, ένα σύμβολο ειρήνης, χωρίς να καταγγείλουμε τη δραματική κατάσταση των ανθρωπίνων δικαιωμάτων στη χώρα, λιγότερο από πέντε μήνες πριν την έναρξη των Ολυμπιακών Αγώνων» αναφέρεται σε ανακοίνωση των Δημοσιογράφων Χωρίς Σύνορα, στο Παρίσι.

«Η μεταχείριση που επιφυλάσσεται στην Κίνα σ' αυτούς που εκφράζονται ελεύθερα, η λογοκρισία που επιβάλλεται στον Τύπο και η συσκότιση των ειδήσεων σχετικά με το Θιβέτ καλούν σε μια τέτοια κινητοποίηση. Όλα τα μέσα είναι καλά σήμερα για να καταγγελθούν οι σοβαρές παραβιάσεις των θεμελιωδών ελευθεριών στην Κίνα. Διαδηλώνουμε κάθε φορά που το μπορούμε» υπογραμμίζει η οργάνωση, σημειώνοντας:

«Από τις 12 Μαρτίου 2008, οι δημοσιογράφοι απαγορεύεται να μεταβαίνουν στο Θιβέτ και διώχνονται από τις γειτονικές επαρχίες. Η καταστολή των διαδηλώσεων των Θιβετιανών διεξάγεται κεκλεισμένων των θυρών». Η οργάνωση επαναλαμβάνει το αίτημά της προς αρχηγούς κρατών, κυβερνήσεων και μέλη βασιλικών οικογενειών να μποϊκοτάρουν την τελετή Έναρξης των Αγώνων στις 8 Αυγούστου στο Πεκίνο.

Η αναμετάδοση της τελετής αφής της φλόγας διακόπηκε από την κινεζική τηλεόραση για μερικά δευτερόλεπτα, χωρίς εξήγηση, λίγο μετά την έναρξη της ομιλίας του Λιου Τσι και όταν έγινε το παραπάνω επεισόδιο με τους διαδηλωτές. Στο διάστημα αυτό, η κινεζική τηλεόραση μετέδωσε εικόνες αρχείου από την Ολυμπία και την αφή της ολυμπιακής φλόγας.

Three demonstrators, members of organisation Journalists Without Borders, tried to interrupt the speech of the chairman of Organisational Committee “Beijing 2008” Lioy Tsi with signs in favour of Tibet, while in their hands they kept a black flag with the five Olympic circles which they presented as handcuffs.

The chairman of Organisational Committee continued his speech, raising in deed the tone of his voice, while the police officers removed the demonstrators before the episode was extended. Between the three members of organisation he was also the Secretary-General Romper Menar, which on Sunday was honoured by the French chairman Nicolas Sarkozy with the medal of Knight of Legion of Price.

The episode was condemned by the assistant governmental representative Ev.Antonaros: “The government condemns each attempt of intervention in the established ceremony of touch of flame, much more when it includes an action that does not have any relation with the Olympic Spirit”.

“If the Olympic flame is holy, humanly right is still more. We could not leave the Chinese government to acquire the Olympic flame, a symbol of peace, without at least to denounce the dramatic situation of human rights in the country, five months before the beginning of Olympic Fights” it is reported in statement of Journalists Without Borders, in Paris.

“The treatment that are held in China in those that are expressed freely, the censorship that is imposed in the Press and the blackout of news with regard to the Tibet call in a such mobilisation. The all means are good today in order to are denounced the serious violations of fundamental freedoms in China. We demonstrate each time where we can” it underlines the organisation, marking:

“By 12 March 2008, the journalists is prohibited to return in the Tibet and they are turned away by the neighbouring provinces. The repression of demonstrations of Tibetans is carried out within close gates the doors”. The organisation repeats her demand to heads of states, governments and members of royal families they boycott the ceremony of Beginning of Fights on 8 August in Beijing.

The broadcast of ceremony of touch of flame was interrupted by the Chinese television for certain seconds, without explanation, little afterwards the beginning of speech of Liou Tsi and when became the above episode with the demonstrators. In this interval, the Chinese television transmitted pictures of file from Olympia and the touch of Olympic flame.

" Σχολείoν η “θρεμένη τσιπούρα”

Τα σχολεία πλέον θα αποκτήσουν όνοματα. Σύμφωνα με τα σχέδια του Υπουργείου Παιδείας τα Δημοτικά, Γυμνάσια και παντός είδους Λύκεια όλης της χώρας θα πάρουν από ένα όνομα και δεν θα λέμε 1ο δημοτικό σχολείο Κάτω Βρυσούλας ή 5ο Λύκειο Καρπενησίου. Αλλά θα λέμε Λύκειο Γρεβενών «Θεόδωρος Κολοκοτρώνης» ή Δημοτικό Σχολείο Αμφιλοχίας «Εμμανουήλ Παππάς» και τα ίδια και τα ίδια όπως πάντα συμβαίνει στην Ελλάδα σ’ αυτές τις περιπτώσεις. Ονόματα συμβατικά, στερεότυπα, κοινότοπα. Βέβαια δεν γνωρίζουμε με ποια διαδικασία θα γίνονται τα «βαφτίσια» και ποιος θα είναι ο «νονός». Ποιος δηλαδή θα παίρνει τις αποφάσεις. Θα έρχονται «καρφωτά» τα ονόματα από κάτω ή στην ονοματοδοσία θα συμμετέχουν και παράγοντες του κάθε σχολείου ξεχωριστά (δάσκαλοι, καθηγητές, μαθητές, γονείς). Ελπίζουμε να υπάρξει η στοιχειώδης δημοκρατική ευαισθησία από το κράτος και το Υπουργείο ειδικότερα και να επιτρέψουν τους ενδιαφερόμενους τοπικά να έχουν γνώμη.
Όμως όπως αυτό έχει μεγάλη σημασία άλλη τόση σημασία έχει και η ουσία του πράγματος. Τι είδους ονόματα δηλαδή θα δώσουμε στα σχολειά μας. Θα μας πιάσει δηλαδή το γνωστό εθνικοπατριωτικό μας και θα προσπαθήσουμε να ξεπεράσουμε ο ένας τον άλλον σε εθνικοφροσύνη δίνοντας ονόματα από την «εθνικοχριστιανική μας ιστορία και παράδοση» ή θα γίνουμε λίγο πιο σύγχρονοι και ευρηματικοί χρησιμοποιώντας ονόματα σύγχρονα, με φαντασία που να κεντρίζουν, να προκαλούν ή και να ανατρέπουν ακόμη το κλίμα της συμβατικότητας που ζούμε όλοι μας καθημερινά;
Θα μου πείτε «και τι ονόματα να δώσουμε»; Δημοτικό Σχολείο «η θρεμένη τσιπούρα»; Θα σας απαντούσα ναι γιατί όχι; Αν και το όνομα αυτό με παραπέμπει περισσότερο σε ψαροταβέρνα εντούτοις το προτιμώ ας πούμε από το «Μέγας Αλέξανδρος» το οποίο έχει χρησιμοποιηθεί κατά κόρον σε κάθε είδους περιπτώσεις από λιμάνια και αεροδρόμια μέχρι ποδοσφαιρικές ομάδες και κουρεία, τόσο που πλέον και ο ίδιος ο Μακεδόνας βασιλιάς αν ζούσε θα το βαριόταν....."

Εκτός ελέγχου βρίσκεται η ελληνική οικονομία
Ξεφεύγει πάνω από 4,5% ο πληθωρισμός - Το καλάθι της νοικοκυράς ακρίβυνε 20% σε δύο χρόνια - Επιβραδύνεται η ανάπτυξη - Αναθεωρείται το Πρόγραμμα Σταθερότητας τον Ιούνιο - Το Δημόσιο γεννά ελλείμματα 10 δισ. ευρώ τον χρόνο - Ρεκόρ πάνω από 30 δισ. ευρώ το έλλειμμα στο ισοζύγιο

Εξι μήνες μετά τις εκλογές του περασμένου Σεπτεμβρίου, τις οποίες προκάλεσε η κυβέρνηση με ατζέντα τις αλλαγές στην οικονομία και την τήρηση του προϋπολογισμού, η οικονομία κινείται εκτός ελέγχου.

Οι στόχοι του Προγράμματος Σταθερότητας και Ανάπτυξης, που αποτέλεσαν τη βάση για τον προϋπολογισμό του 2008 και τη βασική δέσμευση της Ελλάδας στην Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή, κατέρρευσαν κάτω από την εκρηκτική άνοδο των τιμών του πετρελαίου που κινούνται προς τα 111 δολάρια το βαρέλι, αλλά και την αδυναμία της ελληνικής οικονομίας να κρατήσει ζωντανές τις ξένες αγορές για τα ελληνικά προϊόντα και να διατηρήσει το επίπεδο ανταγωνιστικότητας που είχε πριν από την αλματώδη άνοδο του ευρώ στα 1,56 δολάρια.

Σε αυτό το περιβάλλον της διεθνούς κρίσης η ελληνική οικονομία γεννά καθημερινά ελλείμματα για να καλύψει την αυξημένη κατανάλωση (το έλλειμμα στο ισοζύγιο ξεπέρασε τα 30 δισ. ευρώ το 2007) και το πλασματικό βιοτικό επίπεδο των Ελλήνων. Εφέτος το Δημόσιο θα δανειστεί 38 δισ. ευρώ για να εξοφλήσει τόκους και χρεολύσια παλαιότερων δανείων, αλλά και για να καλύψει το έλλειμμα του προϋπολογισμού που θα ξεπεράσει τα 10 δισ. ευρώ.

Είναι προφανές ότι η κρίση βαθαίνει και όσο οι διεθνείς εξελίξεις είναι ταραχώδεις, τόσο δυσκολότερα γίνονται τα πράγματα.

Το πλέον εκρηκτικό όμως πρόβλημα για τα νοικοκυριά είναι ο πληθωρισμός που ανέβηκε τον Φεβρουάριο στο 4,4%, το υψηλότερο σημείο από το 2003, και η ακρίβεια που βιώνουν οι πολίτες. Οι συνεχείς ανατιμήσεις στο καλάθι της νοικοκυράς έχουν επιβαρύνει τον οικογενειακό προϋπολογισμό τουλάχιστον κατά 20% την τελευταία διετία. Αυτό όμως που περισσότερο ανησυχεί όλους είναι ότι θα υπάρξει έξαρση του πληθωρισμού και τους επόμενους μήνες.

Ο υπουργός Οικονομίας κ. Γ. Αλογοσκούφης ανησυχεί για την κατάσταση, αν και θεωρεί ότι η ευρωπαϊκή οικονομία είναι ανθεκτική ενώ η Ελλάδα προστατεύεται από τον ικανοποιητικό ρυθμό ανάπτυξης που διατηρεί εν μέσω της παγκόσμιας επιβράδυνσης. Παρά ταύτα το επόμενο διάστημα, μετά την ανακοίνωση των εαρινών προβλέψεων της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής στα τέλη Μαΐου, θα προχωρήσει σε αναθεώρηση των στόχων του Προγράμματος Σταθερότητας και Ανάπτυξης σε ό,τι αφορά:

1. Τον ρυθμό ανάπτυξης, για τον οποίο προβλέπει ότι θα υποχωρήσει κάτω από 4% εφέτος

2. Τον πληθωρισμό αφού ακυρώθηκαν οι προβλέψεις του, ενώ θα είναι πολύ συγκρατημένος στις αποφάσεις του για την εισοδηματική πολιτική του 2008.

Παρά την εκρηκτική άνοδο του δείκτη τιμών καταναλωτή που αναμένεται να υπερβεί το 4,5% τον Μάρτιο και το νέο κύμα ανατιμήσεων που ξεσπά στην ελληνική αγορά, οι αυξήσεις της εισοδηματικής πολιτικής για το 2008 θα κινούνται κάτω από τον πληθωρισμό.

Για την ανεργία εκφράζονται φόβοι νέας ανόδου εφόσον επιβραδυνθεί η οικονομία. Ο αριθμός των ανέργων ανέρχεται σε 438.066 άτομα - ένας στους τρεις νέος ηλικίας ως 34 ετών. Τα υψηλότερα ποσοστά ανεργίας καταγράφονται στη Δυτική Μακεδονία (12,9%), στη Θράκη (12,4%) και στα νησιά του Νοτίου Αιγαίου (12,3%). Παράλληλα εξετάζονται μέτρα για την αντιμετώπιση του δημοσίου χρέους, το οποίο σε απόλυτους αριθμούς ανεβαίνει κάθε χρόνο κατά 10 δισ. ευρώ, και την αντιμετώπιση της ανεργίας, που έκλεισε στο 8,9% το 2007. Σχεδιάζονται επίσης περικοπές καταναλωτικών δαπανών και μέρους των δημοσίων επενδύσεων για να συγκρατηθεί το δημοσιονομικό έλλειμμα.

«Η υλοποίησή των μεταρρυθμίσεων είναι ακόμη πιο κρίσιμη σε μια περίοδο όπως αυτή που περνούμε τώρα, όπου υπάρχουν μεγάλες αβεβαιότητες στη διεθνή οικονομία. Αβεβαιότητες, που αφορούν και την ανάπτυξη αλλά και τον πληθωρισμό, με τις αυξήσεις των διεθνών τιμών του πετρελαίου, με την αναταραχή στις χρηματαγορές, με τις αυξήσεις των τιμών των πρώτων υλών και των τροφίμων. Πιστεύω ότι η ελληνική οικονομία θα μπορέσει να ξεπεράσει με επιτυχία τους κλυδωνισμούς που έρχονται από το εξωτερικό. Θα προχωρήσουμε στη δημοσιονομική εξυγίανση με στόχο να μηδενισθεί το δημοσιονομικό έλλειμμα το 2010, αλλά και σε πρωτοβουλίες για να γίνει η ελληνική οικονομία πιο ανταγωνιστική και εξωστρεφής» υπογράμμισε στην τελευταία ομιλία του στο Ελληνικό Κέντρο Επενδύσεων, ο κ. Αλογοσκούφης δίνοντας το στίγμα της οικονομικής πολιτικής.

Ψυχραιμία και υπομονή συνιστά ο πρόεδρος του Συμβουλίου Οικονομικών Εμπειρογνωμόνων κ. Πλ. Σακελλάρης, ο οποίος εκτιμά ότι «οι τιμές του πετρελαίου θα ξεφουσκώσουν» χωρίς να προσδιορίζει τον χρόνο.

Αντιθέτως ο γενικός γραμματέας της Στατιστικής Υπηρεσίας κ. Μ. Κοντοπυράκης ανησυχεί και εκτιμά ότι πετρέλαιο και σιτηρά θα ανεβάσουν και άλλο τον πληθωρισμό, λέγοντας χαρακτηριστικά ότι «η κατάσταση είναι πάρα πολύ δύσκολη, όποια τιμή πιάσεις, καίει».

Ταξίδευαν μαζί σε πτήση εσωτερικού ο Κώστας Καραμανλής, ο Γιώργος Αλογοσκούφης και ο Γιώργος Σουφλιάς.

Εκεί που καθόταν ο Αλογοσκούφης κάνει έτσι και βλέπει κάτω από το κάθισμα του ένα χαρτονόμισμα. Το σηκώνει και βλέπει ότι είναι ένα νόμισμα των 200 ευρώ.

Χαρούμενος γυρίζει στους άλλους δύο και τους λέει:

- Ωραίο νόμισμα! Αν μπορούσα να ανοίξω το παράθυρο του αεροπλάνου και να το πέταγα, θα το εύρισκε ένας Έλληνας και θα ήταν

πολύ ευτυχισμένος!

Πετάγεται ο Σουφλιάς και λέει:

- Ανοησίες, εγώ θα πέταγα από το παράθυρο 4 νομίσματα των 50 ευρώ και θα έκανα 4 Έλληνες ευτυχισμένους!

Έρχεται και ο Κωστάκης και τους βγαίνει από τα αριστερά λέγοντας:

- Κεφαλαιοκράτες του κερατά! Εγώ θα πέταγα από το παράθυρο 40 νομίσματα των 5 ευρώ και θα έκανα 40 Έλληνες ευτυχισμένους!!!

Τα άκουσαν όλ' αυτά οι πιλότοι, οπότε γυρίζει ο ένας στον άλλον και λέει:

- Να καρφώσω τώρα το αεροπλάνο στο βουνό που περνάμε και να κάνω 11 εκατομμύρια Έλληνες ευτυχισμένους;;;

Αναβαθμίζονται τα ΤΕΙ Καβάλας

Την αναβάθμιση του ΤΕΙ Καβάλας υποσχέθηκε ο υπουργός εθνικής Παιδείας και Θρησκευμάτων Ευριπίδης Στυλιανίδης, από την Καβάλα όπου βρέθηκε σήμερα, δεύτερο σταθμό της περιοδείας του στην ανατολική Μακεδονία και τη Θράκη.

Ο κ. Στυλιανίδης, στη διάρκεια ευρείας σύσκεψης που πραγματοποιήθηκε στη Νομαρχία Καβάλας, με τη συμμετοχή του νομάρχη Θόδωρου Καλλιοντζή, των βουλευτών, των δημάρχων του νομού και υπηρεσιακών παραγόντων, αναφερόμενος στο ΤΕΙ Καβάλας τόνισε ότι θα υπάρξει σημαντική αύξηση του αριθμού των εισακτέων σε αυτό, θα βελτιωθούν οι κτιριακές υποδομές του και θα υπογραφεί προγραμματική σύμβαση με το Δημοκρίτειο Πανεπιστήμιο Θράκης για τη δημιουργία κοινών δράσεων, όπως είναι η δημιουργία μεταπτυχιακών τμημάτων.

Για τη σχέση αποφοίτων του ΤΕΙ - και της ανεργίας στην Καβάλα δεν είπε τίποτε. Χωρίς σχεδιασμό θα γίνει; Πως και που θα απορροφηθούν οι απόφοιτοι; Γιατί δεν γίνονται συνδυασμένες ενέργειες με το Υπ. Εργασίας;
Θα δημιουργηθούν κι άλλες εστίες; Διότι τα ενοίκια στην Καβάλα είναι τσουχτερά, φυσικά όχι όπως αυτά της γειτονικής Κομοτηνής αλλά είναι.

Γιατί οι αλλοδαποί (εκτός Ελλάδας) που θέλουν να σπουδάσουν δεν προτιμούν την πόλη της ΚΑΒΑΛΑΣ και τα ΤΕΙ;

Μεταπτυχιακά στην Καβάλα ήδη γίνονται... μάλλον δεν το πληροφορήθηκε.. με αγγλικά πανεπιστήμια.

Ο υπουργός απέκλεισε το ενδεχόμενο ίδρυσης πανεπιστημιακών σχολών στην Καβάλα όπως επίσης και οποιαδήποτε επέκταση του Δημοκρίτειου Πανεπιστημίου Θράκης υπογραμμίζοντας ότι επιβάλλεται να υπάρχει όχι μόνο ποσοτική αλλά και ποιοτική αναβάθμιση των ΑΕΙ και ΤΕΙ της χώρας, ώστε να μπορούν οι φοιτητές και οι σπουδαστές να κατοχυρώνουν επαγγελματικά δικαιώματα στην αγορά εργασίας.

γιατί; δεν μπορεί να γίνει ΑΕΙ από τον κρατικό προϋπολογισμό; Ας μη παει σε ΚΟΙΝΟΤΙΚΑ ΚΟΝΔΥΛΙΑ (όπως λέει παρακάτω).. Δηλαδή υπάρχουν ΑΕΙ που γίναν με ευρωπαϊκούς πόρους ΜΗ ΑΝΑΓΝΩΡΙΣΜΕΝΑ στην Ευρώπη; (ας μη τρελαθούμε τελείως). Δηλαδή θα πάει κάποιος στη Γερμανία ή στην Αγγλία να δουλέψει με πτυχίο από αυτά τα ΑΕΙ και θα του πουν που είναι τα επαγγελματικά σου ΔΙΚΑΙΩΜΑΤΑ;

Υπογράμμισε μάλιστα ότι στην Καλαμάτα επενδύθηκαν 40.000 ευρώ για τη δημιουργία σχολών στα οποία υπηρετούν 37 καθηγητές και φοιτούν μόνο επτά μαθητές. Συμπλήρωσε δε ότι τα προηγούμενα χρόνια δημιουργήθηκαν σαράντα έξι πανεπιστημιακά τμήματα μέσω κοινοτικών προγραμμάτων, τα οποία όμως δεν μπορούν να κατοχυρώσουν επαγγελματικά δικαιώματα και είναι αμφίβολο αν θα συνεχίσουν τη λειτουργία τους μετά το 2008 οπότε και λήγουν οι συγκεκριμένες κοινοτικές δράσεις.

Με 40.000 ούτε η μισθοδοσία 3 καθηγητών δεν βγαίνει.. τί λέει;

Αναφερόμενος στα υπό εκτέλεση έργα στο νομό Καβάλας, ο κ. Στυλανίδης υπογράμμισε ότι αυτά φθάνουν τα είκοσι, αφορούν κατά κύριο λόγο την κατασκευή και επέκταση σχολικών μονάδων και είναι συνολικού κόστους 29,6 εκατομμυρίων ευρώ. Επίσης υποσχέθηκε στους δημάρχους του νομού έκτακτη οικονομική ενίσχυση ενός εκατομμυρίου ευρώ προκειμένου να καλυφθούν οι αυξημένες ανάγκες συντήρησης των σχολείων.

Νωρίτερα, ο υπουργός Παιδείας συνοδευμένος από τον υφυπουργό Σπύρο Ταλιαδούρο και τον πρόεδρο του Οργανισμού Σχολικών Κτιρίων Παναγιώτη Παταριά επισκέφθηκε το μητροπολίτη Φιλίππων Νεαπόλεως και Θάσου κ. Προκόπιο.

Στη μια το μεσημέρι ο υπουργός θεμελίωσε το νέο διθέσιο ολοήμερο νηπιαγωγείο στην συνοικία Νεάπολη και στη συνέχεια επισκέφθηκε τα εργοτάξια των σχολικών μονάδων που ανεγείρονται στους Δήμους Φιλίππων και Κεραμωτής.

US seeks terrorists in web worlds

The US government has begun a project to develop ways to spot terrorists who are using virtual worlds.

Codenamed Reynard it aims to recognise "normal" behaviour in online worlds and home in on anomalous activity.

It is likely to develop tools and techniques for intelligence officers who are hunting terrorists and terror groups on the net or in virtual worlds.

The project was welcomed by experts tracking terror groups using the net to organise or carry out attacks.

Growing threat

Brief details about Reynard came to light in a report sent to the US Congress by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) - which co-ordinates the work of US intelligence agencies.

In that report, which talked about the data mining efforts undertaken by the ODNI, Reynard was described as: "a seedling effort to study the emerging phenomenon of social (particularly terrorist) dynamics in virtual worlds and large-scale online games and their implications for the intelligence community".

Using publicly available data Reynard researchers will carry out observational studies to establish "baseline normative behaviors".

Once these are identified, Reynard will "then apply the lessons learned to determine the feasibility of automatically detecting suspicious behavior and actions in the virtual world".

"It's a positive step," said Andrew Cochran, founder and co-chairman of the Counterterrorism Foundation. "For a number of years we were behind in chasing jihadists' presence on the net and detecting it."

"That's a very sensible step at the moment," said Roderick Jones, a vice president of Concentric Solutions and a former special branch officer. "Just to feel their way around them and work out what new intelligence collection methods might be required to deal with this threat, because you won't be able to use traditional law enforcement methods."

New worlds

A senior intelligence officer at the ODNI said Reynard was in its very early stages and it was too soon to say which online worlds it would be studying. He added that any work on it would be purely for research rather than "operational" purposes.

"I think its highly unlikely terrorists would use things like Second Life or World of Warcraft as they do not have the necessary security," said Mr Jones.

"Terrorist use of the internet at the moment relies on password protected forums," he added.

Said Mr Cochran: "All of the major terrorist treatises have been distributed through the internet so taking it to a virtual world with multi-player role games is really an easy step."

It was inevitable that terror groups would make greater use of the internet and the possibilities that virtual spaces offered them, said Mr Jones.

"There's more a chance of things like Jihad worlds coming online in the next five years I think," he said.

The visual richness of virtual worlds made them good places to educate recruits about techniques, said Mr Jones.

Attack pattern

"We can see groups emerging in cyber spaces and virtual communities that would be wholly virtual," he said. "They would organise and radicalise in virtual worlds and attack using cyber methods without becoming a real world presence in any real way."

Many groups were likely to use the expertise and skills they learn in virtual worlds to target key net systems.

Ken Silva, chief technology officer for Verisign which oversees some of the net's core address books, said such an attack could be "devastating".

"We see a continuing growth in the amount of horsepower in the attacks that are directed at infrastructure servers," said Mr Silva.

"We are seeing a large shift from attacks that are directed at individual websites," he said. "The sophistication is getting a little smarter and they are attacking the infrastructure pieces behind them..., which is typically in most production environments the least invested in."

Some of the basic systems of the net, such as the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) which helps data reach its intended destination, were open to attack.

An accidental misconfiguration of BGP in some routers in Pakistan caused the recent problems with YouTube which left many people unable to reach the video site.

"BGP is essentially a relatively unprotected protocol and is seriously vulnerable to disruption," he said. "Should that happen, it could take a very long time to correct that situation."

"This has to be fought at every level," he said.

Russia deepens Ukraine gas cuts

Russian gas monopoly Gazprom has cut supplies of gas to Ukraine again, and said further cuts may follow in the wake of a dispute over debts.

State-owned Gazprom cut supplies by a further 25% on Tuesday, following a 25% cut a day earlier - thereby cutting supplies by half.

Prior to the news, the EU called for an emergency internal meeting amid fears the row could hit European supplies.

Much of the gas Russia sells to Europe passes through pipelines in Ukraine.

The EU said the meeting would ensure "a fully coordinated EU response to the situation," adding "we look to both parties to ensure that gas supplies to the EU remain unaffected".

The news of the second cut was made after a 1700GMT deadline on Tuesday.

"If the Ukrainian side does not return to the negotiating table, I do not exclude a further reduction in supplies," Sergei Kupriyanov, a Gazprom spokesman, said on state television.

The dispute started after Russia said Ukraine had not paid its debts for previous deliveries, which Gazprom says totals $1.5bn (£770m).

But Ukraine maintains the payments have already been made.

Escalating crisis

Gazprom said it reduced supplies to Ukraine by 25% on Monday after talks broke down last week.

Monday's cut effectively ended supplies of gas directly from Russia, which make up a quarter of Ukraine's imports. The rest of Ukraine's imports comes from other states but travels through Russian pipelines.

Naftogaz, Ukraine's state gas company, earlier said it reserved the right to take "appropriate" action - and disrupt supplies to Europe that transit Ukraine - if Gazprom carried out the threatened additional cut.

"In the event that Gazprom continues blatantly to violate technical agreements between the two countries by reducing volumes of Central Asian gas to Ukraine, Naftogaz reserves the right to introduce appropriate, asymmetrical actions to defend the interests of Ukrainian consumers," the company said.

European fears

Gazprom spokesman Sergei Kupriyanov reassured European gas users on Tuesday that shipments of Russian gas would continue.

"Export deliveries via Ukrainian territory are carried out in full volume," he said.

European Commission spokesman Michele Cercone said: "They [Gazprom] reassured us that gas supplies to the European Union will not be affected.

A National Grid spokesperson said the UK did not rely on pipelines crossing Ukraine for its gas. "The UK doesn't get any of its gas direct from Russia," he said.

Kiev tension

A previous row between the two sides saw Russia cut gas to Ukraine in 2006. It also hit exports to Western Europe and affected diplomatic relations between Brussels and Moscow.

The BBC's Europe business correspondent Dominic Laurie says since that last crisis, a lot of work has been done to improve the relationship.

"Top officials meet often, and there's now an early warning system with Gazprom that alerts Brussels about dips in supplies at the Russian end," he said.

"The trouble is, the problems aren't there - but further west - in Ukraine. Kiev's energy relationship with Russia is the one that matters, and that just seems to be getting worse."

Raining Pleasure is a four-piece band that hails from Patra, the biggest town in southern Greece. Having recorded their first demo in the early nineties, Raining Pleasure quickly became the Greek indie scene's best-kept secret.

Their debut album 'Memory Comes Back' (1996) was released for the respected indie label Lazy Dog and received enthusiastic reviews upon release as did it's follow up, 'Nostalgia', released in late 1998.

In Spring 2001 Raining Pleasure were linked with EMI. The band recorded and released an ep 'Capricorn', before returning to the studio to prepare their third full length album, their first for a major.

In December 2001 Raining Pleasure's major label debut 'Flood' was released to critical acclaim. The album spawned three massive airplay hits in Greece, the biggest of which 'Fake' has become a pop and rock radio staple, after successfully being used in TV spots for Greece's leading telecommunications company. 'Fake' was followed by the hits 'Capricorn' and 'Only Through You'. "Fake" was also used to the soundtrack of the film "The Best of Times" directed by the famous Taiwanese director Tso-chi Chang. The film was nominated for the Golden Lion prize at the Venice Film Festival 2002.

The buzz surrounding the group is fantastic and has taken many by surprise. In Rock N Roll Magazine 2002 readers' poll the group was voted best Greek rock act of all time, a humbling vote of confidence for an act that has been around for just over 5 years.

Raining Pleasure have been one of the hottest tickets across Greece for three summers running, having shared festival stages with The Cure, The Pixies, The Dandy Warhols and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club among others and having sold out theatres across the country.

Their major label debut album, 'Flood', performed exceptionally well on the charts, spending 15 weeks on the international chart where it peaked at No.1 before chart regulations necessitated the album's move to the local repertoire chart where it peaked at No.5 (an astonishing and unprecedented feat for a Greek act performing in English). Greek police said on Friday they have arrested a man suspected of selling corporate secrets from France's Dassault Group, including data on weapons systems.

"This 58-year-old mathematician was wanted since 2002 after Dassault contacted Greek authorities," a police official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Reuters.

"He is responsible for causing damages in excess of $361 million to the company and he has sold this corporate data, including information on weapons systems, to about 250 buyers through the Internet," the official said.

Police suspect the man of selling the data to buyers in Germany, Italy, France, South Africa, Brazil, as well as countries in Asia and the Balkans.

"The man hacked into the company's computer system and got possession of the data," the official said.

Police officers accompanied by computer experts raided the central Athens apartment the man was renting under an assumed name and said he was very competent in covering up his electronic footprints.

"He is one of the world's best hackers, using the nickname ASTRA, but we are also looking for an accomplice in the United Kingdom who helped him locate buyers online," the official said.

Dassault Group and its subsidiaries are a major player in civil aviation and the military sector.

The police official said the man would be taken to the prosecutors to be charged.

Lunar eclipse to shade Moon red

PARIS: A 2,100-year-old clockwork machine whose remains were retrieved from a shipwreck more than a century ago has turned out to be the celestial super-computer of the ancient world.

Using 21st-century technology to peer beneath the surface of the encrusted gearwheels, stunned scientists say the so-called Antikythera Mechanism could predict the ballet of the Sun and Moon over decades and calculate a lunar anomaly that would bedevil Isaac Newton himself.

Built in Greece around 150 to 100 BC and possibly linked to the astronomer and mathematician Hipparchos, its complexity was probably unrivalled for at least a thousand years, they say.

"It's beautifully designed. Your jaw drops when you work out what they did and what they put into this," said astronomer Mike Edmunds of Cardiff University in Wales. "It implies the Greeks had great technical sophistication."

The Antikythera Mechanism is named after its place of discovery, where Greek divers, exploring a Roman shipwreck at a depth of 42 metres in 1901, came across 82 curious bronze fragments.

At first, these pieces, thickly encrusted and jammed together after lying more two millennia on the sea floor, lay forgotten. But a closer look showed them to be exquisitely made, hand-cut, toothed gearwheels.

It was clear that, within this find, 29 gearwheels fitted together, possibly making some sort of astronomical calendar. But of what, exactly? For a quarter of a century, the textbook on the strange find was a work written by a historian of science and technology, Derek de Solla Price.

He hypothesised that the Mechanism in fact had 31 gearwheels, and did something pretty astonishing - it linked the solar year with a 19-year cycle in the phases of the Moon. This is the so-called Metonic cycle, which takes the Moon 235 lunar months to the same phase on the same date in the year.

Edmunds' team, gathering experts from Britain, Greece and the United States, has now taken the tale several chapters forward.

In a paper published today in the British journal Nature, they describe how they used three-dimensional X-ray computation tomography and high-resolution surface imaging to peek beneath the Mechanism's surface without damaging the priceless artefact.

There, they read inscriptions on the bronze cogs that had been unseen by human eye since that Roman ship came to grief aeons before.

The original device, they believe, is likely to have comprised 37 gear-wheels and comprised two clock-like faces, one front and one back, which would have fitted into a slim wooden box measuring 31.5 by 19 cm and a thickness of 10 cm.

The machine was a 365-day calendar, which ingeniously factored in the leap year every four years. And it not only provided the Metonic cycle, which was known to the Babylonians, it also gave the so-called Callippic cycle, which is four Metonic cycles minus one day and reconciles the solar year with the lunar calendar.

It could also predict lunar and solar eclipses under the Saros cycle, a 223-month repetitive interplay of the Sun, Earth and Moon. This function, presumably, would been useful for religious purposes, given that eclipses are traditionally taken as omens.

The Machine was also a star almanac, showing the times when the major stars and constellations of the Greek zodiac would rise or set and, speculatively, may also have shown the positions of the planets.

But even more impressive is a tiny pin-and-slot device that factors in a movement of the Moon that, for centuries, puzzled sky-watchers. In this so-called main lunar anomaly, the Moon appears to move across the heavens at different speeds at different times - the reason being its elliptical orbit around Earth.

"Newton used to say he would think about this until his head hurt," notes Edmunds.

This latter discovery prompts the scientists to wonder if the great Hipparchos, who drew up the first catalogue of the stars and wrote about the lunar anomaly in the 2nd century BC, may have had a hand in designing the Mechanism. ΠΟΙΟΣ ΕΥΘΥΝΕΤΑΙ ΣΤΗΝ ΠΡΑΓΜΑΤΙΚΟΤΗΤΑ ΓΙΑ ΤΗΝ ΑΥΤΟΚΤΟΝΙΑ ΖΑΧΟΠΟΥΛΟΥ

Τον τελευταίο καιρό ασχολήθηκα αρκετά με θέματα κουλτούρας οπότε η σημερινή μου ενασχόληση με τον αποτυχόντα αυτόχειρα του υπουργείου Πολιτισμού ήταν αναπόφευκτη.
Επειδή πολλά λέγονται για τους λόγους που τον οδήγησαν στο απονενοημένο διάβημα έκατσα και ερεύνησα το θέμα και κατέληξα μελετώντας την όλη ιστορία και τους εμπλεκόμενους σε αυτήν, ότι δεν είναι ένοχη η αόρατη μη κατονομαζόμενη 34χρονη στην TV και κατονομαζόμενη και εγχρώμως φωτογραφιζόμενη στις εφημερίδες , κ. Τσέκου .
Το μέγαρο Μαξίμου προσπαθεί να καλύψει τον πραγματικό ηθικό αυτουργό της αυτοκτονίας που δεν είναι άλλη από την Νατάσα!
Ας δούμε λοιπόν πως τεκμηριώνεται αυτή η υπόνοια.
Η Νατάσα ήταν ένα χαριτωμένο, καλό, χαμογελαστό και ήσυχο κορίτσι που είχε καταφέρει να πάει να σπουδάσει νηπιαγωγός παίρνοντας το πτυχίο της το 1988 και κατά πάσα πιθανότητα , θα ήταν μάλλον επιτυχημένη στη δουλεία της.
Όμως γνώρισε τον ανιψιό ενός τέως πρωθυπουργού και προέδρου της Δημοκρατίας, πολύ καλό παιδί, καλό γαμπρό και με πολύ καλή όρεξη, γνωστό σε όλα τα φαγάδικα από την Θεσσαλονίκη μέχρι τον Μπαϊρακτάρη στο Μοναστηράκι.
Ο ανιψιός αυτός εκλέχτηκε αρχηγός στο κόμμα του θείου του εξ αιτίας της ευτυχούς συγκυρίας να είναι μεν ανιψιός αλλά να μην τον λένε Λιάπη.
Βέβαια στην Ελλάδα άμα έχεις το όνομα αποκτάς και την χάρη και ας μην έχεις μέχρι τότε διευθύνει ούτε περίπτερο, όπως κακεντρεχώς είχε πει ένας αντίπαλος του που προφανώς τον ζήλευε γιατί ήταν κομψότερος από αυτόν, αν και ένας άλλος γκαντέμης τέως πρωθυπουργός θεωρούσε ότι τουλάχιστον υφυπουργός θα μπορούσε να γίνει αλλά όχι βέβαια στην δικιά του κυβέρνηση .
Μετά τον δεσμό της λοιπόν με τον ανιψιό που κατέληξε ευτυχώς σε γάμο το 1998, η νηπιαγωγός μας σκέφτηκε τον ίδιο χρόνο ότι μια πρωθυπουργική σύζυγος είναι πιο σικ να είναι γιατρός.

Έτσι κοντά στην ηλικία της Τσέκου ,οι κακές γλώσσες στο διαδίκτυο λένε ότι γεννήθηκε στις 14 Απριλίου 1966, αλλά δεν παίρνω όρκο ότι είναι σωστή αυτή η ημερομηνία γιατί στο βιογραφικό της δεν αναφέρεται αιδημόνως ημερομηνία γέννησης , γράφτηκε στην Ιατρική.
Βέβαια επειδή η Ιατρική είναι 6 χρόνια όταν την ξεκινάς στα 32 και μετά πρέπει να κάνεις και ένα χρόνο αγροτικό και άλλα 5-6 χρόνια ειδικότητα και εάν θέλεις και να γίνεις και διδάκτορας θέλεις άλλα 3 χρόνια και μετά άντε και καμιά μετεκπαίδευση και όλα αυτά χωρίς καμιά καθυστέρηση, κινδύνευε να φτάσει σε ηλικία συντάξεως πριν να προλάβει να την εξασκήσει οπότε τι νόημα θα είχε τόσος κόπος;
Όμως επειδή το κορίτσι μας έχει ικανότητες σούπεργκερλ αποφάσισε κατά την διάρκεια των σπουδών στην Ιατρική να τα κάνει όλα.
Να γίνει μητέρα διδύμων το 2003, να κάνει μετεκπαίδευση στις ΗΠΑ στο Tufts της Βοστόνης, να ιδρύσει και να εκλεγεί πρόεδρος της μη κερδοσκοπικής εταιρίας "Ανέμη", να συνοδεύει τον πρωθυπουργό στις επίσημες εκδηλώσεις στην Αθήνα και το εξωτερικό σπουδάζοντας συγχρόνως στην Θεσσαλονίκη ,να περάσει στην τελευταία εξεταστική του 2/2004, μεσούσης της προεκλογικής περιόδου 14 μαθήματα μαζί (οι κακές γλώσσες λένε ότι στις προφορικές εξετάσεις, έμπαινε μόνη της στο γραφείο των καθηγητών, όταν οι άλλοι έμπαιναν 5-5 , αλλά εγώ δεν τις πιστεύω γιατί είναι γνωστό ότι οι καθηγητές μας είναι βράχοι ηθικής χωρίς να κάνουν διακρίσεις στα πρόσωπα της εξουσίας ), αλλά πάνω από όλα να ασχοληθεί και με την πειραματική έρευνα και να μελετήσει την επίδραση της υποξαιμικής-ισχαιμικής εγκεφαλοπάθειας στις γνωσιακές λειτουργίες και τη νευρολογική ανάπτυξη των παιδιών της προσχολικής ηλικίας για να εκπονήσει διδακτορική διατριβή.
Και όχι μόνο αυτό.
Το πανάξιο αυτό κορίτσι κατάφερε κάτι που δεν έχει ξαναγίνει στην Ελλάδα (για την Ζιμπάμπουε δεν παίρνω όρκο).
Έγινε διδάκτωρ το 2002 πριν να πάρει το πτυχίο του τμήματος που σπούδαζε που το πήρε το 2004!!
Όμως οι άξιοι άνθρωποι ξέρουν και να ανταμείβουν αυτούς που τους βοήθησαν στην ζωή τους και στη διατριβή τους . Και το κορίτσι μας αυτό έκανε!

Η καθηγήτρια της Ιατρικής κ.Ολυμπία Γκίμπα �Τζιαμπίρη που πέρασε την διατριβή έγινε πρόεδρος του Ιδρύματος Κρατικών Υποτροφιών.
Με την αξία του ο γιός της Άρης Τζιαμπίρης υπέγραψε, μέσω της εταιρείας του που έχει μετοχικό κεφάλαιο το ιλιγγιώδες ποσό των 600 ευρώ, συμβόλαιο 576000 Ευρώ με τον ΟΠΑΠ και με μηνιαία αμοιβή 24000 ευρώ,ο Λουκάς Ανανίκας έγινε Γενικός Γραμματέας στο υπουργείο Μακεδονίας-Θράκης και ο Χρήστος Ζαχόπουλος που ως φιλόλογος της στο Λύκειο της χτένισε την διατριβή, Γενικός Γραμματέας στο Υπουργείο του άντρα της .
Και από εδώ αρχίζει το ζουμί της ιστορίας.
Ο Χρήστος Ζαχόπουλος φιλόλογος Μέσης Εκπαίδευσης είναι άνθρωπος που έχει τον πολιτισμό στο αίμα του. Αυτό φαίνεται άλλωστε και από τους πνευματικούς ανθρώπους με τους οποίους είναι φίλος.
Ποίος θα ήταν καλύτερος για το Μουσείο Κινηματογράφου στην Θεσσαλονίκη και για Ευρωβουλευτής από τον φίλο του τον συγγραφέα και σκηνοθέτη τον επονομαζόμενο και «Βασιλιά της βιντεοκασέτας» Γιώργο Μυλωνά;
Οι ταινίες του ,που με σεμνότητα δεν αναφέρονται στο βιογραφικό του, όπως ο βιασμός μιας μοναχής, ο παρθενοκυνηγός ,η γκομενάρα από το Μέτσοβο, ο παρθενοφάγος ,Τζακ ο καβαλάρης κτλ που σήμερα τις λοιδορούν οι άσχετοι, σε 30 χρόνια θα παίζονται στο Γκαγκάριν σε φεστιβάλ όπως παίζονται σήμερα οι ταινίες του Γκουσγκούνη και της Τίνας Σπάθη που επιμόρφωσαν τα νεανικά μας χρόνια.
Εδώ ολόκληρος σκηνοθέτης σαν τον Τιμ Μπάρτον γύρισε ταινία για τον χειρότερο σκηνοθέτη του κόσμου τον Εντ Γούντ για τον Μυλωνά δεν θα υπάρξει αύριο ένας νέος Αγγελόπουλος να εξυμνήσει το έργο του;
Έτσι λοιπόν ο αγνός φιλόλογος από την Θεσσαλονίκη βρέθηκε γενικός δερβέναγας σε ένα υπουργείο που κόντευε να σκάσει από τον πολιτισμό όπως τα κουστούμια τα δικά του και του υπουργού του από τα παραπανίσια κιλά.
Εκεί λοιπόν ο μέχρι τότε σεμνός και ταπεινός, σαν το κόμμα του γραμματέας, απέκτησε γραμματέα την 34χρονη κατά την ΤV ,ή την Τσέκου κατά τις εφημερίδες.
Από την άλλη μεριά η νεαρά που είχε μπει με πολύ διάβασμα πρώτη στη σχολή της , είχε πλέον διαπιστώσει, με μια μικρή βέβαια παραλλαγή, ότι δυστυχώς σε αυτή την ζωή όπως λέει και η παροιμία για τους ψαράδες �άμα δεν βρέξεις κώλο ψάρι δεν πιάνεις .
Οπότε ορθώς σκεπτομένη σκέφτηκε ότι μόνο οριζοντίως θα διοριστεί.
Και βέβαια επειδή ο υπουργός έτσι και αλλιώς δεν είχε πατήσει ποτέ το πόδι του στο υπουργείο του ώστε να του την πέσει, βρήκε ότι μπορούσε να σαγηνεύσει τον γενικό γραμματέα που τον θεωρούσε και γοητευτικό άνδρα, γιατί της θύμιζε τον ήρωα των παιδικών της χρόνων ,τον Πάντσο Βίλλα.
Από κει και πέρα τι θέλατε να κάνει ένας μεσήλικας φιλόλογος λάτρης των ταινιών του φίλου του όπως ο παρθενοκυνηγός ή ο παρθενοφάγος;
Η γκομενάρα όμως που δεν ήταν από το Μέτσοβο αλλά από τους Δελφούς, εκεί που θαύμαζε τον εαυτό του στον καθρέπτη λέγοντας της ενθουσιασμένος που είχε αποκτήσει γκόμενα -«Κοίτα κορμάρα που στηρίζει τον Καραμανλή» άρχισε να πιέζει για διορισμό.
Εκεί όμως άρχισαν και τα δύσ-κωλα.
Είπαμε να παραβλέψουμε ολίγον το σκέλος οικογένεια από το τρίπτυχο Πατρίς-Θρησκεία-Οικογένεια που αποτελεί και ιδεολογικό φάρο της παράταξης, αλλά το Πατρίς πώς να το παραβλέψουμε;
Πως θα πάει μπροστά η Πατρίς αν διορίζουμε όποιον πηδάμε ενώ χιλιάδες γαλάζια παιδιά, άριστοι στο να δίνουν συνεντεύξεις περιμένουν μαζί με τον υπουργό τους το ρουσφέτι τους ;
Στην ανάγκη λοιπόν ο φίλος φαίνεται.
Ο σκηνοθέτης μας γνωρίζοντας σαν γνήσιο κομματόσκυλο όλους τους παρατρεχάμενους που είχε διορίσει το κόμμα, ξαμολήθηκε με την αρχαιολόγο μας αλα μπρατσέτα να δούν τους Προέδρους από τον Οργανισμό που είναι για την αντιμετώπιση των λοιμώξεων μέχρι τον Οργανισμό για την Ολυμπιακή αξιοποίηση.
Φαίνεται ότι και οι δύο αυτοί Οργανισμοί δεν είχαν πουθενά αρχαία για να κτίσουν επάνω , οπότε ούτε τον Ζαχόπουλο είχαν ανάγκη για να τον εξυπηρετήσουν ,ούτε αρχαιολόγο χρειαζόντουσαν για να φροντίσει για τις λοιμώξεις, αν και τα Ολυμπιακά ακίνητα όπως έχουν καταντήσει έχουν αποκτήσει αρχαιολογική αξία.
Στο σημείο αυτό η αρχαιολόγος αρχίζει να καταλαβαίνει πως ότι και να της υπόσχεται ο σκηνοθέτης δεν είναι τίποτα άλλο παρά σαν την κλασσική του ταινία «πράσινα ,μπλέ και κόκκινα καρύδια» και ότι πλέον τα πράγματα έχουν φτάσει να είναι σαν την άλλη του ιστορική ταινία «εδώ και τώρα αγγούρια»
Έχοντας επηρεαστεί από την θητεία της σε ένα καλλιτεχνικό υπουργείο η 34χρονη είχε σκεφτεί ότι αν δεν διοριστεί μπορεί να το ρίξει στην σκηνοθεσία επηρεασμένη προφανώς από τις δημιουργίες του Μυλωνά. Έτσι φαίνεται ότι είχε τραβήξει σκηνές με τον γραμματέα που ούτε η ιταλίδα βουλευτής Τσιστιολίνα δεν είχε στην φιλμογραφία της.
Και από εδώ ξεκινάει το δράμα που σας είναι πλέον γνωστό και δεν θα περιγράψω .
Σκεφτείτε λοιπόν θα είχαν γίνει όλα αυτά αν η Νατάσα δεν είχε βάλει σκοπό να γίνει διδάκτωρ, ο Ζαχόπουλος να της διορθώσει το κείμενο, να γίνει έτσι κολλητός της με αποτέλεσμα να γίνει γραμματέας και να γνωρίσει την συμβασιούχο 34χρονη;
Αν δεν είχαν γίνει όλα αυτά θα είχε μείνει στην Θεσσαλονίκη και θα ασχολιόταν απλά με την σύζυγο,με την ΔΑΚΕ και τα συνδικαλιστικά της ΕΛΜΕ.
Είδατε λοιπόν τελικά γιατί ο πραγματικός αίτιος του δράματος είναι η Νατάσσα;

A GLEN Iris man has been remanded in custody on 33 counts of rape and 55 counts of indecent assault after allegedly drugging his victims and filming the attacks, in what could be one of Victoria's worst serial sex crimes.

John Nicholous Xydias, a 43-year-old chef living in Glen Iris with his parents, will appear in the Melbourne Magistrates court on Monday after police alleged he had drugged, raped and filmed 16 women between 1998 and 2004.

The charges relate to attacks on two women. Another woman has also been identified.

As Xydias appeared before a bail justice in an out-of-court hearing at the St Kilda Road police complex, it emerged he has an apparent fascination with former Seven Network celebrity, Naomi Robson, covering his bedroom with pictures of her face superimposed on to pictures of lingerie-clad women.

Wearing a grey top buttoned at the front, pale blue jeans and white sneakers with his hair pulled back in a ponytail, Xydias sat quietly with his arms clasped in front of him as police detailed the charges.

Opposing bail, Detective Senior Constable Rodney Neylan told the bail justice Xydias posed an unacceptable risk in that he knew some of the victims and might attempt to contact them.

But Xydias denied he wanted to contact them, claiming they were "in a bad scene and I have changed all that".

"These people, I used to see them, I used to have relationships with them previously. It's just funny how this can happen," he said. "I used to see them … and they have charged me with this," he said.

The charges were laid after police seized 90 videotapes showing sex acts involving women who appeared to be unconscious, from his Glen Iris address and a house in Dromana.

Police have not discounted the possibility that he is the same man known as the "hot chocolate rapist" who drugged and attacked more than 20 Melbourne women in the late 1990s.

The footage allegedly shows the man raping up to 16 women while they were unconscious.

The sexual crimes squad was called in and its investigators have tracked down three victims in the videos — none of whom was aware they had been raped until shown the footage.

Detective acting Inspector Simon Clemence said of the alleged attacker: "On the Richter scale of sex offenders, he probably comes in roughly around about second.

Police will allege the man got in contact with several women via phone dating services and met his other victims at various nightclubs and cafes in Prahran, Richmond and Fitzroy.

"We want any person who may have any information about these incidents to come forward. It is imperative that we identify the women who appear in these videos," Mr Clemence said.

Other women who fear they may have been victims, or anyone with information, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
