Breaking Topic: Bulgarian Hands Note to Skopje

16 January 2007 | 08:02 |
Bulgaria handed a verbal note to Macedonia over the violent attack against Bulgarians who had gathered to mark the death anniversary of Mara Buneva in Skopje.
Macedonia?s ambassador in Bulgaria was informed that Bulgaria demanded that all the necessary measures be taken ? the attackers should be punished and similar incidents averted in the future. Both, the Bulgarian and Macedonian media followed the event closely. Meanwhile, it was announced that the new Macedonian encyclopedia includes the Bulgarian towns of Blagoevgrad, Petrich, Melnik, and Sandanski describing them as the larger towns from Macedonia?s shares ? Aegean, Vardar and Pirin. Along with the Bulgarian towns, the encyclopedia lists Thessaloniki, Skopje, Kavala, Bitolja, Tetovo, Kumanovo and etc. describing them as also part of ?these territories?.
?The provocations are not accidental?, Bulgarian historian Prof. Bozhidar Dimitrov said. According to him, each act of Macedonism was aimed to distance Macedonia from the EU and NATO, because the country?s membership in them would put an end to the lies and Macedonism.
