The FBI was conducting interviews for a vacant secret agent position. Three applicants, two men and one woman, were sitting at a table awaiting their interview. The interviewer placed a gun on the table and told the first applicant (male) that his wife was in the other room and he was to take the gun and kill her. Shocked the man protested saying he could never do something that terrible. He was dismissed being told he did not have what it would take to be a secret agent.
The second applicant (male) was told his wife was in the next room and he was given the same instructions. He slowly picked up the gun and went into the room. After five long minutes the man returned and told the interviewer he was unable to pull the trigger. He too was dismissed being told he did not have what it would take to be an FBI agent.
The third applicant was told her husband was waiting in the next room and she was to take the gun and kill him. She picked up the gun and went into the room. Suddenly three shots were heard. Then banging noises and a thud. The woman returned, sweat pouring down her brow and the gun in her hand. She said, "this darn thing was loaded with blanks. I had to break off one of the table legs and beat him to death."
