Subj: LL-335 & New Pages at Website

From: "Lyle (Hiroshi) Saxon" <mailto://ronfaxon@mxm.mesh.ne.jp>
----------------------------------------------------------------
Greetings from Tokyo,

It's been a while since I've sent out a general letter. I feel like I'm
in the middle of a long hike - every day brings progress down the
seemingly endless trail, but there's not much feeling of speeding
ahead... still, slow but steady progress can be better than sporadic
speedy leaping and jumping about. Slogging away.., slogging away.

I finished LL-335 a while ago actually, but have been busy with making
new photo pages, some new Japanese-language pages, etc. I've found
myself getting more involved in the promotion of Linux, as I might -
feeling quite strongly about it and against a certain monopoly software
company.

How are things for you all out there? It's been nearly ten years since
I started the LL-Letters - 1996 and 1997 were so different from today!!
We were happy to find each other across national borders - happy to
learn about other cultures.... Well - everyone has their own blog these
days... but still - something has changed.

Truth is stranger than fiction - lets keep our eyes and our hearts open
as the typhoon winds blow - in the end, it all counts for nothing, but
right now, it counts for everything!

If you have time to send me your thoughts, please do - and if you'd
rather it stay out of the LL's, no problem, just say so.

On to introductions of new material at the website, starting with the
latest LL:

In addition to posting this, I've gone through all of the LL-Letters at
the site:
http://www5d.biglobe.ne.jp/~LLLtrs/LL_R/RecentLLs.html

- and added links from the titles down to the articles. So now - with
all of them - just click on any title that you want to see and it will
automatically appear. To get back to the top, click on "Back to top".

I visited the 2005 International Tokyo Motor Show - taking a lot of
photos, many of which are on the following five pages:

I previously mentioned making an alphabetically arranged Index Page for
the Photo Gallery, but I've completely updated it and the new one is
vastly easier to use. The titles are in the middle column, and you can
easily find things by scrolling up and down the alphabetized list:

The original Photo Gallery remains as well, with no changes. This page
is good for seeing the chronological order in which the photo pages have
been posted (newest postings at the top):

The title is "Ebisu & Roppongi" but it starts out in Koganei - it was a
long day! A long day and then a long night!:

The Akihabara page was one of the oldest ones, but I've updated it with
a new format (three-column), new photos and new text:

It was an eventful day - more interesting than a typical day - from
Saitama to Akihabara to Yurakucho....

The blog used to be just a log of new pages on the site, but I've begun
using it as a regular blog lately, so a lot more text is going into it.

I had the opportunity to meet with Mark Shuttleworth, the second "space
tourist" and the founder of Ubuntu Linux - as related here:

[Ubuntu / Roppongi Hills / Grand Hyatt Tokyo]

- with an outside article published here:

I have a lot of material on the Bozo Peninsula, so rather than wait
until I've gotten everything finished, I thought I would post it in bits
and pieces as I go along - what I have so far is:

[Boso Peninsula - Main]

[Boso Peninsula - Page-2]

Japanese pages - I would like to have all the English pages mirrored in
Japanese, but I don't trust most people to translate my stuff into
Japanese, so what I have up is what I've written myself (with a couple
of pages edited later to correct a mistake here and there pointed out by
my Japanese friends). If you can read Japanese, have a look at the
following pages and let me know what you think of them:

[Tokyo Concert Hall (J-Version)]
http://www5d.biglobe.ne.jp/~LLLtrs/i_i_v/jpage/f1/TokyoCnertHls01J.html

[Ebisu & Roppongi (J-Ver)]

[Location Filming -(J)]
http://www5d.biglobe.ne.jp/~LLLtrs/i_i_v/jpage/f1/LocationSJ.html

This is my Japanese language blog - written originally in Japanese and
not a translation of the English-language blog at all.
